DOE Hours:
Up to 40 hours per week Under general supervision of the Ranch Supervisor, the Agricultural Technician performs a variety of duties involved in maintaining irrigation ditches, head gates, pumps, water recording devices, ensures water rights are beneficially used in accordance with Wyoming water law, and other activities required for the operation of City agricultural properties.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Adjust head to maintain allotted water flow within the irrigation ditches; keep head gates and culverts clear of debris; and maintain ditches and other irrigation structures. Operate and maintain irrigation pumps. Maintain and read water recording devices and record flows as required. Operate a variety of vehicles, tools, and equipment used in the maintenance and repair of irrigation systems in a safe, accurate and effective manner with minimal supervision. Ensure all areas requiring irrigation are properly irrigated in a timely manner. Carry out activities associated with daily ranch operations. This includes but not limited to fencing, building repair, mowing, weed eating, etc. Noxious weed treatments and spraying. Understand and follow oral and written instructions. Maintain simple records and logs, complete reports as necessary. Protect water rights by ensuring beneficial use occurs and documenting this beneficial use.
QUALIFICATIONS
Experience or willingness to learn a variety of maintenance, repair and operation of irrigation and agricultural equipment. Ability to safely and efficiently complete tasks with little supervision. Must have a valid driver license. Experience or willingness to learn basic water law principles. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees and public. Experience in ranch work, property maintenance, weed identification and spraying, building trades, large equipment operating, or similar backgrounds is highly desired.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Must be 18 years or older. Ability to sit, stand, walk, kneel, crouch, stoop, squat, crawl, twist, climb, push, pull, lift 50 lbs., distinguish color, and wear protective apparel; exposure to cold, heat, noise, outdoors, vibration, confining workspace, chemicals, explosive materials, mechanical hazards, electrical hazards, toxic substances, foul odors, wastewater, sludge, effluents, bacteria, viruses, and traffic hazards. Applicants who are offered an appointment are required to pass a comprehensive background investigation, drug screening test, and driver's license check.
