Excel Shop specializes in the restoration and repair of wood antique furniture. For over 60 years Excel has been one of the go-to wood shops in the Louisville area for furniture repair. Our team is growing and we are looking to have an experienced furniture tech join us. As a Furniture Tech at Excel you will be responsible for: Performing fine finish touchups to damaged furniture or furniture repairs using mediums such as paint, lacquers and enamels, oils, waxes, and stains Color matching and toning to existing finish color Spraying lacquer and shellac, applying oil based stains and varnishes, and waxing and polishing on some larger pieces Repairing some minor damage with wood techniques such as filling, gluing, clamping, sanding, shaping, etc. Regluing loose joints on chairs and other furniture Removing and installing sheet caning Sanding furniture to prepare for finishing Evaluating furniture to determine the type of wood, parts, and materials to do the job Using hand tools and power tools to complete furniture tech repairs and touchup tasks In-home and on-site repairs and touchups for customers Occasional assistance with pickups and deliveries Collaborating with other craftsman to coordinate furniture tech work with overall project timelines Using a software to complete jobs in a prioritized and efficient manner Strong, consistent work ethic and ability to manage time effectively Maintaining a clean and organized work area May be asked to take greet customers and take payment from customers during busy hours Excel is looking for the following experience from you: Previous experience as a furniture tech or similar role preferred Knowledge of various wood finishing techniques and materials Experience with small upholstery repairs appreciated Professional finishing or wood experience in lieu of repair and touchup experience (ie wood shop, body shop, or other wood/finishing positions) Ability to use hand tools and power tools effectively and safely Strong attention to detail and ability to produce high-quality touchups and repairs Ability to lift heavy objects and perform physically demanding tasks Basic knowledge of computers/ability to learn a software Friendly attitude and ability to talk to clients College degree not required Valid drivers license and clean driving record required What Excel can provide to you: The ability to learn under another long time experienced furniture craftsman A professional and safe work environment, spray booth, and tools Pay based on experience Professional development If you are a skilled furniture touch up repair tech looking for an opportunity to showcase your craftsmanship, we want to hear from you!
