Primary Purpose:
The job of General Tradesman is to perform high level trade work in constructing, maintaining and repairing building structures and facilities. The General Tradesman also acts in a lead role for work groups of varying construction and maintenance skill sets, safely and within established timeframe; producing required cabinetry, furnishings; and ensuring adequate materials are available to complete assignments in a timely manner.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
Education/Training background normally equivalent to a high school education with course work in skilled crafts or trades or an equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience. Special knowledge/
Skills:
Knowledge of methods, materials, tools and practices of the cabinet making trade. Read and understand blueprints. Must have good math and geometry skills.
Minimum Experience:
Five years' experience in the cabinet making, carpentry, wall prep and painting.
Other Requirements:
Hold a valid Texas driver's license and must have an outstanding attendance record.
Major Responsibilities:
Assists in the planning and coordination of building and maintenance projects, determines material quantities and potential work time for proposed upgrades, installations, repairs and projects to ensure accurate estimating of costs and schedules. Assists in training and oversees the work of others; review progress and make changes as needed. Coordinate their work activities with district, school site and other trades for the purpose of completing projects/work order efficiently. Builds a wide variety of furniture items (e.g. counter tops, computer tables, cabinets, storage units, ramps, partitions, closets, cases, shelving, etc.) for the purpose of producing required cabinetry and furnishings. Maintains job related equipment (e.g. shop equipment, hand and power tools, etc.) ensuring availability and proper functioning of equipment required to perform job functions. Prepares various written documents (e.g. estimates, drawings, requisitions, etc.) documenting activities, providing written reference and/or conveying information. Procures materials for specific work orders/projects (e.g. orders, purchases, requisitions, etc.) ensuring availability of required materials for project. Remodels office and work space (e.g. partitions, paneling, walls, doorways, etc.) for the purpose of providing for the efficient utilization of space and addressing cosmetic and/or safety concerns. Repairs furniture, floor plates, cabinets, ceilings, walls, fences, ramps, sheds, stairways, athletic devices, etc. for the purpose of providing for the safe and efficient utilization of work areas. Responds to emergency situations and/or identified potentially hazardous conditions for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns. Transports work equipment and materials required for assigned project for the purpose of providing materials at job site as require to complete tasks. Other duties as assigned.

Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:
Strenuous walking, standing, bending, and/or climbing stairs or ladders; frequent lifting and carrying of up to 50 pounds; work outside and inside; exposure to hot and cold temperatures; exposed to dust, dirt, and paint fumes; work under buildings and or work on top of roofs, work on elevated platforms such as scaffolding and or bucket trucks; must be able to work as a team member and at times work alone. •The foregoing statements describe the general purpose and responsibilities assigned to this job and are not an exhaustive list of all responsibilities and duties that may be assigned or skills that may be required.
