LEVEE OPERATOR
Incumbent serves as an operator for the Levee Authority. DUTIES Works with lead operator to perform duties assigned by the supervisor. Reports maintenance problems to supervisor and lead operator. Operates all levee equipment, pumps, gates, etc. in a safe manner. Performs necessary repairs to all levee equipment, buildings, grounds and tools as directed. Keeps maintenance records and pump log charts. Works all three (3) shifts, overtime, weekends and holidays as required. Performs other duties as assigned and assists other employees as required.
SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE
High school diploma or equivalent preferred; will consider applicants without diploma based upon experience demonstrating required abilities and skills. Must possess and maintain a Commercial Driver's License with proper endorsements. Incumbent should be able to read and write. Construction, welding, cutting torch and mechanical experience required. Incumbent must possess practical knowledge of the use and repair/maintenance of tools and equipment including tractors, mowers, trucks, heavy equipment, chainsaw, weed-eater, hand, and power tools.
RESPONSIBILITY
Work is performed under moderate supervision with incumbent reporting to Foreman and Lead Operator.
PHYSICAL EFFORT
Effort is regularly exerted for prolonged periods. Effort involves pushing, pulling, climbing and lifting of 60 pounds or more in addition, must meet established physical requirements. Good manual dexterity. In addition, must meet and/or perform all established physical requirements
WORK CONDITIONS
Prolonged exposure to dust, sun and inclement weather, and work in confined space. Occasional exposure to hazardous working conditions including heights, slippery surfaces.
