Millwork Finishing Technician

Position Summary:

The Millwork Finishing Technician bridges the gap between basic production support and senior-level finishing. This role prefers prior experience in wood finishing and requires the operator to confidently run automated finishing equipment, apply water-based coatings, and ensure consistent quality.

Core Responsibilities:

Equipment Operation:

Set up, operate, and monitor automated flat line finishing equipment (e.g., Superfici lines) to maintain a steady production flow.

Application:

Apply water-based paints, stains, and sealers to custom millwork, ensuring consistent coverage, correct mil thickness, and adherence to production tickets.

Advanced Prep & Quality Control:

Perform high-level surface preparation, fine sanding, and defect correction. Inspect products as they exit the automated line to catch and correct finish flaws immediately.

Changeovers & Maintenance:

Execute efficient color and material changeovers. Perform daily cleaning and routine maintenance on sprayers, lines, and booth areas to prevent equipment downtime.

Workflow Support:

Work closely with the Department Lead to prioritize daily runs. Provide guidance to entry-level Line Operators and Prep-Production Support staff to ensure parts are fed and offloaded correctly.

Safety & Compliance:

Maintain a clean, organized work area and strictly adhere to all safety protocols regarding equipment operation and chemical handling.

Qualifications & Requirements:

2+ years of hands-on experience in millwork finishing, industrial painting, or a similar manufacturing environment. Proven experience operating automated finishing lines or industrial spray equipment. Familiarity with the application and behavior of water-based finishes and coatings. Strong attention to detail with the ability to identify subtle inconsistencies in color, sheen, and texture. Ability to work independently on standard production runs while escalating complex troubleshooting to the Senior Finisher or Lead. Reliable team player willing to assist with prep and line loading/unloading when production demands require it.

Pay:

$23.00 - $28.00 per hour
