This position reports to:
Engineering Manager __ Tool and Die Grinder- Grade 18 ABB is looking for a Tool and Die Grinder (Entry-Level Tool and Die Maker) for our Tool Room Department.
Responsibilities:
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
Perform precision surface grinding on die components, interpret technical drawings and manufacturing data sheets, and conduct quality inspections using precision measuring instruments to ensure all ground components meet exact dimensional specifications. Provide direct support to senior tool and die makers by assisting with cleaning, sharpening, timing, and servicing progressive carbide dies while learning advanced tool room techniques and problem-solving methods. Participate in structured cross-training program on manual mills, lathes, and CNC equipment; maintain grinding machines and fluid filtration systems through routine preventive maintenance to support continuous skill development and equipment reliability. Ensure safe, compliant work environment by following all safety procedures and PPE requirements, maintaining organized workstation per 5S standards, and collaborating effectively with engineers, project managers, and team members.Education:
Minimum completion of a basic machining certificate program or equivalent technical coursework.Detail Orientation:
High comprehension skills with a strong aptitude for tight-tolerance, detailed work.Mathematical Skills :
Basic understanding of shop math, geometry, and mechanical blueprint interpretation. Ability to work daily and weekend overtime, including overtime on short notice.Progressive Goals :
Years 1-2: Master high-precision grinding and basic manual machining. Years 3-4: Crosstrain on CNC, Wire EDM, and full progressive die troubleshooting and feed rates for tool steel. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Candidates must already have work authorization that would permit them to work for ABB in the US.- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods (8-12 hours per shift) on concrete floors while maintaining pace with production demands; occasionally sit during breaks or specific tasks.
- Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 pounds regularly; frequently grip, turn, bend, stoop, and reach in various positions including overhead; manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination for precision work.
- Visual acuity sufficient to read blueprints, technical drawings, and precision measuring instruments (micrometers, calipers); ability to inspect fine details and dimensional accuracy on machined components.
- Ability to operate hand tools, power tools, and equipment including surface grinders, electric chain hoists, pneumatic tools, electric and manual pallet jacks, and controls with knobs and buttons; dexterity to perform equipment set-up and clear die jams.
- Ability to work in manufacturing environment with exposure to noise (hearing protection required), dust, metalworking fluids, temperature variations, and moving machinery; ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) including safety glasses, hearing protection, and steel-toed shoes.
- Ability to identify and respond to safety hazards; locate and operate emergency stops and safety equipment; verify proper function of safety devices including emergency stops and light curtains per safety protocols.

Antonio Hernandez (1st Shift) The work model for the role is: Onsite Hourly pay range: $25.00- 31.
