Deckperson Scaler

Hood Industries, Inc. is a blend of wood manufacturing and distribution concerns that include plywood and lumber manufacturing plants, and twenty-three specialty wood product distribution operations, located in fifteen states serving the northeast, southeast and southwest United States. We are looking for a Deckperson Scaler for the Beaumont, MS plywood facility. The primary purpose of this position is to assist the Lathe Operator with operations and maintenance of the lathe.

Key Responsibilities:

Assist the lathe operator in ensuring that the lathe is in proper operating condition/setup to properly process logs for the next step in the process to manufacture veneer for plywood manufacturing. Operate the lathe in the absence of the Lathe operator and correct any upset conditions during the process. Monitor the lathe throughout the operations to ensure continuous operation and detect any potential issues. Assist the Lathe Operator with changing lathe knives as needed. Communicate with maintenance concerning any operational issues. Use an assortment of hand tools to complete daily clean-up duties, such as air hoses, shovels, etc. Work with minimal supervision, in a safe and productive manner. Must be able to follow written and oral instructions. Adhere to all safety, health, and company policies, procedures, and guidelines. This includes wearing personal protective equipment (PPE). Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Work any shift, holidays, weekends, and overtime as needed. Work in a hot, cold, noisy, industrial environment. Pull and lift at least 50 lbs. Perform tasks such as lifting, kneeling, walking, climbing, stooping, standing, pushing, and/or pulling for up to 12 hours per day.

Preferred Qualifications:

High school diploma or GED. Experience in a manufacturing environment. Experience working with wood products. Experience operating mobile equipment. Strong understanding of the lathe preferred.

Salary:

$21.75/per hour
