Job Title:
Saw Filer Job Description As a Saw Filer, you will inspect saw equipment for defects, perform preventative maintenance, and conduct necessary repairs. This includes welding cracks, replacing broken teeth, and using grinding machines to sharpen teeth and shape gullets to precise specifications. You will level and apply tension to blades using hammers and stretcher-rolls to counteract operational stresses and heat distortion during the cutting process. Your role will also involve performing machine alignment to ensure precision cutting and quality sizing, diagnosing sawing defects, and collaborating with mill operators and maintenance teams to resolve issues. Adhering to plant safety and environmental guidelines, you will monitor saw performance to maintain product quality and maximize wood recovery. Additionally, you will maintain accurate records of saw usage, repairs, and inventory, sharpen all saws, and maintain filing and mill alignment equipment. Sharpen all saws and maintain filing equipment along with mill alignment equipment. Essential Skills Expertise in saw sharpening techniques, machine calibration, and welding. Proficiency in using hand tools and specialized machinery like grinders, swages, and tensioners. Strong analytical and troubleshooting capabilities. Acute attention to detail for precision in maintaining saw blades. Experience using precision measuring devices such as micrometers and dial indicators. Strong communication skills to work effectively with team members. Experience operating industrial equipment. Additional Skills & Qualifications High school diploma or GED is typically the minimum requirement. Vocational training in woodworking or industrial technology is an asset. 6 months to 2 years of experience in a manufacturing or sawmill environment. Strong mechanical aptitude. Willingness to work nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime as required by production schedules. Basic computer literacy for interacting with modern, automated filing systems. Why Work Here?
