Job Description:
Noreas, Inc. has a hazardous waste technician available on our Environmental Services contract to operate hazardous waste management facilities, including bilge and oily waste, industrial waste and containerized waste for the U.S. Navy. The ideal candidate must be detail oriented with good communication and computer skills; have the ability to follow written and verbal instructions; and be able to work independently. 40-hour hazardous waste operations and emergency response (HAZWOPER) certification is required but can be completed after hire on the employee's own time. Duties include, but are not limited to, collecting, packaging, consolidating, marking, and labeling. Essential Job Functions Inspect hazardous waste containers for structural integrity, proper identification markings, and Department of Transportation (DOT) regulatory compliance. Examine and prepare waste turn-in forms. Uniform hazardous waste manifests. Assist clients in the preparation of documents related to the turn-in of hazardous waste. Load, secure, move, and position HM/HW using forklifts, pallet jacks, and other material handling equipment. Work independently or under minimal supervision to receive, load, and unload hazardous waste, and to properly mark containers for storage and transportation. May be required to respond to hazardous and non-hazardous substance spill incidents and to assist in the cleanup of such substances
Physical Requirements:
Position requires standing and walking for extended periods of time, frequently lifting and carrying objects weighing up to 50 pounds, pushing, pulling, reaching, grasping, stooping, crouching, bending, climbing, speaking, listening, and sitting. The use of common hand tools and power tools such as: wrenches, pliers, screwdrivers, hammers, brooms, shovels, pry bars, drills and reciprocating saws are required. Employment is contingent upon successfully passing a physical, including a drug screen, and a background check in order to obtain a government identification badge for use in accessing government facilities. The employee will also complete First Aid/AED Training, 8-hour
