Core Responsibilities Project Oversight:
Manage the day-to-day operations of abatement projects, including site setup, containment construction, and negative air pressure system maintenance.
Team Leadership:
Supervise, train, and mentor a team of abatement technicians, assigning tasks and monitoring performance to meet deadlines.
Safety Compliance:
Conduct daily safety briefings ("toolbox talks") and perform respirator fit tests. Enforce the correct use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
Air Monitoring:
Collect air samples to ensure the work area meets safety clearance levels and monitor air quality throughout the abatement process.
Waste Management:
Oversee the proper labeling, doubling, and disposal of asbestos-containing materials (ACM) according to environmental standards.
Documentation:
Maintain accurate daily logs, incident reports, waste manifests, and air monitoring records.
Communication:
Act as the primary liaison between the field crew, clients, project managers, and regulatory agencies.
Required Qualifications & Skills Certification:
Must hold a valid NYS Asbestos Supervisor Certification . OSHA 10Hr or 30hr preferred.
Experience:
Typically requires 3-5 years of experience in asbestos abatement, with at least 1 year in a supervisory role.
Regulatory Knowledge:
In-depth understanding of NYS code rule 56, OSHA, EPA, and local hazardous material policies.
Technical Skills:
Ability to read blueprints, understand technical specifications, and use specialized equipment like airless sprayers and vacuums.
Physical Ability:
Must be able to pass a "fit for duty" physical and work while wearing heavy protective suits and respirators in physically demanding environments.
Common Work Environment Locations:
Industrial plants, commercial buildings, residential properties, and schools throughout eastern NY.
Conditions:
Often involves working in contained, dusty, and noisy environments. Many roles require travel to different project sites and may involve night, weekend, or overtime shifts.
