Job Description
Our client is seeking a skilled Model Maker to join its Game Development Studio. This is a hands-on, analog fabrication role for someone who loves building real things with real tools. You will help build bespoke, handcrafted entertainment-based machines that combine mechanical engineering, art, music, software, and physical interaction. Every machine is made by hand, so the parts you fabricate, form, fit, adjust, and refine directly impact the final product. This is not a CNC production role. This role is focused on manual fabrication, steel, plastic, sheet metal, welding, forming, fitting, finishing, and practical shop problem-solving. This is also a fast-paced environment. The right person must be comfortable turning around high-quality work quickly, shifting priorities when needed, and solving build challenges in real time. What You'll Do Fabricate, modify, and refine prototype parts and assemblies using steel, plastic, sheet metal, and other physical materials. Work from drawings, sketches, CAD references, sample parts, and verbal direction. Operate manual shop equipment including Bridgeport mills, lathes, grinders, press brakes, shears, lasers, and related fabrication tools. Cut, bend, form, drill, grind, weld, finish, and fit parts by hand. Create brackets, housings, mounts, mechanisms, jigs, fixtures, and custom components. Perform MIG, TIG, spot welding, brazing, and other joining techniques as needed. Use CO2 and fiber lasers for accurate pattern cutting across various materials. Work closely with engineers, designers, artists, and product teams to solve mechanical build challenges quickly. Support R&D by testing ideas, improving mechanisms, identifying fit or tolerance issues, and turning rough concepts into working physical solutions. Maintain a strong eye for fit, finish, alignment, movement, durability, and craftsmanship. What We're Looking For 7 to 10+ years of hands-on experience as a Model Maker, Master Machinist, Prototype Fabricator, Toolmaker, Senior Prototype Technician, Custom Fabricator, or similar role. Strong manual fabrication experience working with steel, plastic, sheet metal, and prototype materials. Experience in hands-on environments such as custom motorcycle builds, custom automotive work, restoration shops, specialty vehicle fabrication, performance shops, prototype shops, themed entertainment, film props, toy prototyping, amusement equipment, industrial design, or specialty fabrication. Strong manual machining ability, including mills, lathes, grinders, and related shop tools. Experience with sheet metal fabrication, including bending, forming, cutting, fitting, and finishing. Welding and joining experience, including TIG, MIG, spot welding, brazing, or similar processes. Ability to work from blueprints, sketches, sample parts, CAD references, and verbal instruction. Strong use of precision measurement tools, including calipers, micrometers, gauges, and related inspection tools. Ability to hold tight tolerances while working quickly in a prototype and build environment. Comfort working in a fast-paced shop where priorities can shift and quick turnaround is expected. Preferred Experience Basic CAD knowledge for interpreting digital designs. Experience with 2D laser cutting, waterjet, manual machining, 3D printing, molds, casting, or finishing. Familiarity with moving mechanisms, linkages, assemblies, play features, and interactive physical products. Experience working directly with engineers, industrial designers, artists, or product teams. Physical Requirements Ability to lift up to 50 pounds to shoulder height. Strong fine motor skills, hand-eye coordination, and depth perception. Comfort standing, bending, lifting, and working in a fabrication shop environment. Ability to safely operate manual machinery, welding equipment, presses, lasers, grinders, and related shop tools. Why This Role Is Unique This is a true builder's role. The work happens in the shop, with tools, materials, parts, machines, mechanisms, and hands on problem solving. Every product is made by hand, and craftsmanship matters. The components you create will directly shape the final experience for people who touch, play, collect, and remember these machines worldwide.
