Job Description

Description Selection Procedure Applications will be screened, and those candidates whose backgrounds best match the requirements of the position will be invited to participate in a competitive examination process, which may include any combination of the following: Training & Experience evaluation (T&E) and a Written Exam (Multiple-choice). Examination procedures are subject to change as deemed necessary by the Director of the Personnel Commission.
PUSD Classification Salary Range:
$27.77 - $35.54 per hour
Anticipated Hiring Salary Range:
$27.77 per hour (Step 1) - $32.20 per hour (Step 4) Candidates who pass all of the examination processes are ranked on an eligibility list according to their score(s). Selection for the position will be made from among the top three (3) ranks of candidates. The eligibility list will be used for hiring purposes in other vacancies in the same, or equivalent, job classification and will be active for six (6) months (Merit Rule 50.100.1). The current vacancy is 8 hours per day, 12 months per year, located at the Facilities, Maintenance, & Operations (FMO) Department.
BASIC FUNCTION
Under the direction of the Maintenance Supervisor, perform skilled locksmith work in the installation, maintenance and repair of locks on doors and cabinets. Examples of Duties
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES
Install new locks, repair locks, change lock combinations, repair or replace tumblers, springs and other parts. Repair and replace doors and doorjambs. Open locks and make new or duplicate keys. Disassemble padlocks, door and safe locks or other types of locks using various hand tools. Utilize electronic locksmithing equipment including access control hardware and software and others; install, maintain and repair electronic door operators, electromagnetic locks and related equipment. Participate in new construction projects as assigned; participate in the installation, maintenance and repair of metal and wood door and frames. Operate a variety of equipment, tools and machines such as drill presses, routers, grinders, key cutters, keying machines, saws, engravers, locksmith picks, pinning kits and hand tools; drive a vehicle to conduct work. Estimate labor, material and equipment requirements; monitor inventory levels of supplies and equipment; order supplies and equipment as needed. Repair and adjust panic bars and other exit hardware. Communicate with administrators, staff and outside agencies to exchange information, coordinate activities and resolve issues or concerns; collaborate with outside contractors, other departments and maintenance personnel to complete assigned projects as necessary. Work from verbal and written instructions, blueprints, sketches and work orders; respond to emergency needs as requested. Prepare and maintain various records and reports related to projects, equipment, work orders, maintenance, keys and assigned activities. Oversee the work of others as assigned. Minimum Qualifications
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Any combination equivalent to: completion of an apprenticeship or other formal training program and two years of journey-level locksmithing experience.
LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS

WORKING CONDITIONS
ENVIRONMENT:
Indoor and outdoor environment. Driving a vehicle to conduct work.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Lifting, carrying, pushing or pulling heavy objects as assigned by the position. Walking. Reaching overhead, above the shoulders and horizontally. Bending at the waist, kneeling or crouching. Heavy physical labor. Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate various tools and equipment as assigned. Climbing ladders. Hearing and speaking to exchange information.
HAZARDS:
Working around and with machinery having moving parts.
