Livonia Public Schools employs approximately 1,900 staff members, serving approximately 13,300 students pre-K
  • post secondary.
There are 15 elementary schools, 3 middle schools, 3 high schools, 1 career technical center, 1 early childhood center, and 1 vocational and transition center in the school district. The annual budget for Livonia Public Schools is $175 million, with a state funding of $9,608 per pupil.

Job Description and Cognitive Requirements Job Description Under the direction of the Maintenance Supervisor, the Locksmith will perform skilled work in the installation, maintenance, and repair of locks, door hardware, keying systems, and access control components throughout district facilities. The employee will ensure the security and proper functioning of all locking and access systems to maintain a safe and secure environment for students, staff, and property. The Locksmith will collaborate with the Maintenance Department and administrative staff to manage key control and support facility operations district-wide. General Duties
  • Install, maintain, and repair locks, door hardware, closures, panic bars, hinges, and related security devices.
  • Rekey and master key locks to maintain integrity of the district's key control system.
  • Fabricate, issue, and track keys and maintain accurate key and lock records through the district's Work Order System.
  • Inspect locking mechanisms, door assemblies, and entry systems for proper function and security.
  • Repair and replace components on mechanical and electronic access control systems as required.
  • Collaborate with administrators and security personnel to coordinate access levels and key distribution.
  • Interact with Building Management Systems (BMS) and electronic access systems for monitoring and system adjustments.
  • Communicate effectively with staff, students, and supervisors regarding door and access system performance and maintenance needs.
  • Ensure all work is completed in a safe, efficient, and professional manner consistent with district policies and security procedures.
Physical and Operational Responsibilities The physical and cognitive demands of the job duties described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to have the ability to:
  • Sit, stand, bend, and work in confined spaces for extended periods of time.
  • Push, pull, and/or lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Use hand and power tools safely and effectively, including drills, grinders, and key-cutting machines.
  • Climb ladders and work on doors, frames, and access devices at various heights.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, door hardware schedules, and keying charts.
  • Operate diagnostic and testing equipment related to access control systems.
  • Respond promptly to emergency lockouts, repairs, and service calls as assigned through the Work Order System. Cognitive Requirements

  • Works cooperatively with Facilities, Security, and Operations staff.
  • Expected to maintain all required licenses and certifications relevant to locksmithing and access control systems.
  • May be assigned district-wide responsibilities that require travel between facilities.
Regular working hours are 8 hours per day, 40 hours per week, 12 months per year. All maintenance personnel are subject to be on call 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and must work the required hours. An outstanding attendance record is a must. Dependable transportation is required for travel to school buildings. Mileage for business-related travel is reimbursed. Livonia Public Schools is a smoke-free workplace. Specific details involved in the position will be discussed with the administrator during the interview and at the time of hiring. A completed criminal background check and pre-employment physical are required prior to appointment. Because of the nature of the work, a spirit of cooperation with all others is essential. Salary and benefits will be in accordance with the Agreement between Livonia Public Schools and AFSCME Local 118, Council 25.
