Job Description

Access Control Technician (Systems-Focused, Locksmith Hybrid) 2434 34th Street, Lubbock, TX 79411 Hybrid work $23.06 - $27.77 an hour - Full-time $23.06 - $27.77 an hour - Full-time Job Summary We are seeking an experienced Access Control Technician with a strong systems mindset who is also willing to work across the mechanical side of the trade. This is a hybrid role by design. While your primary strength should be in access control systems, you will also be expected to handle locksmith work as needed to complete jobs from start to finish. We are not looking for a technician who only wants to program panels or pull wire. We are building a well-rounded professional who understands the entire door—hardware, wiring, and system integration. This position offers a clear growth path as our access control division expands, with the long-term potential to become more system-focused. Duties Install, configure, and service access control systems, including electronic locks, card readers, and control panels Diagnose and troubleshoot system-level issues involving wiring, relays, panels, and door hardware interaction Perform cabling, wiring, and low-voltage electrical work for new installations and upgrades Read and interpret schematics and technical drawings to complete installations accurately Perform locksmith-related work as needed: Rekeys Lock installation and repair Door hardware adjustments Mechanical troubleshooting Complete jobs start-to-finish rather than partial scope work Collaborate with customers to assess security needs and recommend practical solutions Maintain clear documentation of work performed and system configurations Skills Strong experience in access control systems (REQUIRED) Ability to think at a system level—not just follow install instructions Mechanical aptitude and willingness to work on physical door hardware Experience with low-voltage wiring, relays, and system integration Familiarity with CCTV, alarms, and related security systems (preferred but not primary focus) Ability to read and interpret technical schematics Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills Professional communication with customers and team members Construction or field service background is helpful Growth Path This position is designed to evolve. While the role currently includes both access control and mechanical locksmith work, our long-term direction—and the direction of the industry—is toward more advanced electronic and system-based work. As our access control division grows, this role has the potential to become increasingly focused on access control systems. This is an opportunity to help build and eventually operate a dedicated access control division—not just fill a position. Position Philosophy We believe the best access control technicians understand the entire door—not just the electronics. Mechanical competency is part of doing the job right. At the same time, we are actively expanding into higher-level system work. This role is designed for someone who wants to grow into that space. Bottom Line If you are strong in access control but willing to handle the mechanical side of the trade—and want the opportunity to grow into a more system-focused role—this is a strong fit. If you are only interested in narrow, task-specific work, this position will not be a fit.
