Senior CNC Lathe Machinist / Lead CNC Turning Specialist Day Shift 5:00a.m.- 1:30p.
m. Position Summary We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced CNC Lathe Machinist to join our manufacturing team. This top-level role is responsible for programming, setup, operation, troubleshooting, and optimization of CNC turning centers while maintaining the highest standards of quality, productivity, and safety. The ideal candidate will be a subject matter expert in precision machining, capable of producing complex components with minimal supervision and mentoring junior machinists. Key Responsibilities Program, set up, and operate CNC lathes, multi-axis turning centers, and live-tooling equipment. Interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, GD&T, and customer specifications to manufacture precision components. Select tooling, workholding, cutting parameters, and machining strategies to optimize cycle times and quality. Perform first-article inspections and verify parts using precision measuring equipment including micrometers, calipers, bore gauges, and CMMs. Troubleshoot machining, tooling, and programming issues to minimize downtime and scrap. Edit and optimize CNC programs at the machine and offline using CAM software. Maintain tight tolerances and superior surface finishes on complex parts. Lead continuous improvement initiatives focused on productivity, quality, and cost reduction. Train, mentor, and support setup machinists and operators. Collaborate with engineering, quality, and production teams to develop efficient manufacturing processes. Maintain accurate production records and ensure compliance with all safety and quality requirements. Participate in new product introduction and process development activities. Required Qualifications 10+ years of CNC lathe machining experience in a precision manufacturing environment. Expert knowledge of CNC turning, tooling, speeds and feeds, and machining practices. Extensive experience with Fanuc, Haas, Mazak, Okuma, or similar controls. Strong understanding of GD&T and blueprint reading. Proven ability to hold tight tolerances on complex precision components. Experience setting up and operating multi-axis CNC lathes and live-tooling machines. Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills. Proficiency with precision inspection equipment. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Preferred Qualifications Journeyman Machinist certification or equivalent experience. Experience with CAD/CAM software such as Mastercam, Fusion 360, GibbsCAM, or Esprit. Experience with Swiss-style lathes and multi-tasking machines. CMM programming and advanced inspection experience. Leadership or supervisory experience. Physical Requirements Ability to stand for extended periods. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds. Manual dexterity to operate machinery and measuring equipment safely. Compensation Competitive salary based on experience. Overtime opportunities.
