As a certified Master Ship Repair Contractor for the U.S. Navy, our skilled professionals have successfully completed hundreds of ship repair and modernization projects for the Navy and Military Sealift Command. We perform maintenance and modernization on all classes of major surface vessels, including CVN, CG, and DDG, as well as amphibious ships such as LHD, LHA, LSD, LPD, and auxiliary ships. Our work spans a full range of Combatant, Hull, Mechanical and Electrical, and Habitability systems, supporting the readiness and mission success of the U.S. Fleet.

Position SpecificsVigor Marine CM San Diego is currently seeking an Outside Machinist Journeyman to help support our operations. The Outside Machinist Journeyman is responsible for the overhaul, alignment, and adjustment of machinery equipment in place onboard ship; cut, shape, and drill various materials; assemble and disassemble mechanical parts according to technical manuals; clean and preserve parts; perform related tasks as assigned, some of which may become essential to the position.

Minimum RequirementsWorking knowledge of ship layoutTrained in machine shop equipment, alignment process, and blueprint readingAbility to use hand tools and measuring devicesAbility to work at heights and in confined spacesMust be able to access and move around ship safelyAbility to read and comprehend technical manualsA minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in requiredThe ability to obtain a DBIDS credential is requiredPhysical RequirementsMost work is performed aboard ships or in industrial conditions. Shop, shipboard, warehouse, industrial environmentMay be exposed to fumes and irritants including welding/burning fumes, paints, oils, greases and various cleaning solutions and solvents, noise, high heat and humidity hazards while wearing the required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)Frequently moves throughout the shipyardWorks at heights and in confined spacesMust be able to ascend/descend stairs/ladders/ramps, aboard ships in shipyards under industrial conditions and in confined spacesMust be able to move heavy equipment and boxes, weighing up to 50 poundsMay be exposed to rapid changes in microclimates, industrial processes, and other environmental factors while collecting data, providing direction, and observing performance of task teamsOur CommitmentThe Vigor Marine CM San Diego Management Team is committed to providing the necessary structure, tools, and environment for our employees.
