Full Job Description Job Overview:
The CNC Machinist Level III is an advanced, highly skilled tradesperson responsible for independently setting up, programming, and operating complex CNC machining centers, including 3-axis and 5-axis HAAS machines; maintaining quality and safety standards; keeping records; maintaining equipment and supplies. This position requires strong Mastercam programming experience and full ownership of production from setup through inspection, troubleshooting, and process optimization with minimal supervision.
Essential functions:
Including but not limited to: Independently set up, program, and operate 3-axis and 5-axis
HAAS CNC
machining centers. Create, modify, and optimize CNC programs using Mastercam. Interpret engineering drawings, GD&T, specifications, and work instructions. Select tooling, fixtures, feeds, and speeds to maximize efficiency and part quality. Perform first-article, in-process, and final inspections using precision measuring equipment. Troubleshoot machining, tooling, fixturing, and program-related issues. Optimize machining processes to improve cycle times, quality, and productivity. Identify and implement process improvements to increase shop efficiency and reduce waste. Assist with the design, fabrication, and improvement of shop tooling, workholding, fixtures, and manufacturing aids. Support development and implementation of vacuum fixtures and custom workholding solutions. Maintain setup sheets, inspection records, and manufacturing documentation. Collaborate with engineering and production teams to support prototype and production requirements. Adhere to demanding production schedules and consistently meet delivery commitments. Communicate effectively with team members, suppliers, and customers regarding technical and production-related matters. Take full ownership of assigned jobs from setup through production completion. Ensure safe operations by following all safety procedures and regulations; maintain equipment through preventive maintenance and troubleshooting. Support shop organization, tooling management, and 5S initiatives to maintain a clean and efficient work environment. Meet production schedules and delivery commitments while taking full ownership of jobs from setup through completion. Continuously improving technical knowledge through training, technical resources, and practical experience; contribute to organizational goals and process improvements.
Minimum qualifications:
Extensive experience with
HAAS CNC
machining centers, including 3-axis and 5-axis machining. Strong proficiency in blueprint reading, GD&T, and precision inspection techniques. Experience machining a wide range of materials including plastics (acrylics, engineering plastics), aluminum, stainless steel, carbon steel, tool steels, and titanium. Deep understanding of material properties, tooling selection, and machining strategies for high-quality and cosmetic parts. Proven ability to machine tight-tolerance precision components (±0.001" or better) and high-quality surface finishes. Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills with a focus on process improvement and efficiency. Solid knowledge of controls, instrumentation, tooling systems, and manufacturing processes. Experience with inventory control, supply management, and shop coordination. Excellent attention to detail, sound judgment, and decisive decision-making ability. Strong conceptual, functional, and technical skills. Effective verbal and written communication skills; ability to interpret and convey technical information clearly. Team-oriented, personable, and able to work independently with minimal supervision. Self-motivated with a proactive mindset toward continuous improvement and operational excellence. Proven ability to meet demanding production schedules while maintaining high quality standards. Committed to workplace organization, cleanliness, and efficient shop practices.
Experience/Preferred Qualifications:
5-year-experience in CNC programming and machine operation in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. Proficient in Mastercam programming for 3-5 Axis Experience in a job shop, prototype, or low-volume/high-mix manufacturing environment. Experience designing and building machining fixtures, vacuum fixtures, and custom workholding solutions. Experience working in an AS9100-certified aerospace manufacturing environment. Aerospace, avionics, prototype, or high-precision machining experience. Familiarity with continuous improvement, lean manufacturing, and 5S principles. Experience in operating and programming CNC lathes is a plus.
Working conditions:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands and arms to perform repetitive motions; to sit, stand, bend, reach, talk, hear and move around the facility Must have visual acuity to operating machines such as lathes, drill presses, power saws and mills, performing mechanical tasks. Must be able to lift up to 50lbs as required Must be able stand for long periods of time Required to work on concrete floors, wearing steel toe shoes and safety goggles 4/10 scheduled. May work over-time if scheduled.
