Responsibilities With little or no assistance, the General Machinist will operate 2 & 3 axis conventional machines, Mill & Lathe, Gundrill machines, Hone Machines, to produce complex aerospace parts demonstrating advanced cross training flexibility. They will have experience with most, if not all conventional machines and their operational capabilities. Fully operate multiple machines as needed, (work cell), conventional Mills and Lathe's Perform pre-operational inspections Studies blueprints, manuals, dispatch specifications to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished work pieces, sequence of operations and setup requirements Perform complex set ups without assistance on multiple machines; checking or changing chucking jaws, tools , etc Operates sit down forklift to retrieve parts and load them onto racks Utilize cranes and hoists to load and unload parts from racks onto machines Operate machines on trial run to verify accuracy of machine settings and programmed controls Selects, aligns, and secures holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials on machines Calculates and sets controls to regulates machining factors such as speed, feed, coolant flow, and depth and angle of cut, or enters commands to retrieve, input, or edit computerized machine control media. Starts and observes machine operation to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining, and adjusts machine as required Verifies conformance of finished workpieces to specifications Track time on each function or task by maintaining time records on BAMC Carries out day-to-day work following the departments continuous improvement plan Essential Skills Conventional Machine Knowledge
- Posses basic operative experience and understanding of manual and automated machines, such as lathes, mills and conventional CNC's Calibration Knowledge
- Proficient with measurement tools such as dial indicators, bore gauges, micrometers, calipers and other inspection tools, Equipment Operation
- Experience with driving sit down forklifts and operating cranes Product Quality Knowledge
- Monitor the products for quality, imperfections and conducting test runs
