Since 1969, we've been the world's largest independent pump rebuilder, trusted for engineering excellence, repair, and field support. Our Denver, CO service center is seeking a skilled Manual Machinist to join our team. A day in the shop You'll begin by reviewing work orders and blueprints, deciding how best to machine a unique pump component. You'll select tooling, set up a Vertical Turret Lathe or manual engine lathe, and bring worn parts back to life—impellers, wear rings, bearing housings, covers, and seals—holding tight tolerances and recording critical dimensions with precision metrology. What you'll do Set up and manually machine custom pump components in a job-shop environment. Work to exact specifications on impellers, wear-rings, bearing housings, covers, and seals. Interpret mechanical drawings, blueprints, and sketches to plan machining operations. Perform precision cutting, grinding, shaping, and fitting on horizontal and vertical boring mills and ID/OD grinders. Verify and document dimensions of critical features using inspection equipment and translate measurements into numerical form. Assess and refine machining procedures for accuracy and efficiency. Maintain machine tools and related equipment in peak operating condition. Follow Hydro shop safety policies and procedures to protect yourself and the team. Collaborate closely with engineers, other machinists, and shop personnel to troubleshoot and improve outcomes. Tools and knowledge you'll bring Strong shop math and practical application. Geometry expertise to compute angles, radii, bolt circles, and related dimensions. Understanding of feed rates and how adjustments affect results. Hands-on skill setting jigs, fixtures, arbors, mandrels, centers, and clamps. Ability to machine 3-10 ft pump shafts and hold 0.0005" or better using a steady rest. High attention to detail, manual/finger dexterity, coordination, and control precision. Comfort operating VTLs, manual lathes, boring mills, and ID/OD grinders. Experience & education 5+ years post-training as a machinist in an industrial setting machining
