Job Title:
Machinist Job Description The Machinist operates and, depending on experience level, sets up CNC mills and lathes to produce precision parts to specification. This role interprets blueprints, uses standard measuring instruments, monitors tool wear, and ensures parts meet tight tolerances while maintaining production goals and quality standards in a clean, safety-focused manufacturing environment. Responsibilities Operate CNC mills and lathes, primarily using Mazak machines with Mazatrol controls and mill/lathe combination equipment. Retrieve part programs from the computer system, transfer programs to the machine when needed, load programs and ensure the machine is properly dialed in and dimensionally correct. Run first-piece parts, perform dimensional checks, and coordinate any required inspections with team leads, technicians, or quality control before proceeding with full production. Perform standard setups including touching off tools, loading parts, reviewing and understanding prints, and correlating the blueprint to the machining process. Monitor and maintain production counts, including the number of parts produced, amount of scrap, and any tool breaks. Report broken tools promptly and move affected parts to the scrap area according to procedures. Work toward meeting established performance metrics such as run time per part and hourly output, with support and training from leads and supervisors. Communicate issues, concerns, or abnormalities to the team lead in a timely and clear manner. Complete and/or set up multiple work orders per day, typically 2-3 and up to 5-6 orders depending on the cell and product mix. Check tools for wear, adjust dimensions as tools wear, replace tools when necessary, and re-run parts as needed to minimize scrap. Operate machines running G&M code with Fanuc controls, primarily on 3-4 axis mills and lathes. Hold and verify tight tolerances ranging from approximately ±0.2 to ±0.0005 as required by the print. Machine primarily steel and aluminum materials according to specifications. Use standard measuring tools to verify part dimensions and ensure compliance with drawings. Adhere to all safety procedures and contribute to maintaining a clean and organized work area. Collaborate with peers, leads, and other departments to support smooth workflow and continuous improvement. Essential Skills Approximately 2+ years of CNC machining experience, including operating mills and lathes. Experience with CNC setup, including understanding programs, performing changeovers, and touching off tools. Ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and dimensional requirements. Proficiency with standard measuring tools such as micrometers, drop gauges, and indicators. Familiarity with G&M code and Fanuc controls on 3-4 axis CNC mills and lathes. Ability to hold and verify tight tolerances in the range of approximately ±0.2 to ±0.0005. Strong attention to detail and accuracy in both setup and production. Reliable attendance and punctuality. Effective communication skills and willingness to collaborate within a team environment. Positive attitude, strong aptitude for learning, and commitment to safety and quality. Why Work Here?
