Job Description

3rd Shift CNC Machinist- Direct Hire Job Description The 3rd Shift CNC Machinist sets up, operates, and maintains CNC lathes, mills, and machining centers to produce precision components for hydraulic and power systems. This role requires strong blueprint and GD&T interpretation skills, careful use of precision measuring tools, and consistent focus on quality and throughput in a high-volume manufacturing environment. Responsibilities Set up and operate CNC machines, including lathes, mills, and machining centers, to produce precision components. Interpret blueprints, technical drawings, work instructions, and GD&T to ensure accurate part production. Perform tool changes, offsets, and basic program adjustments directly at the machine. Monitor machine operations to maintain product quality, cycle times, and production throughput. Use precision measuring instruments such as micrometers, calipers, and gauges to verify part dimensions. Conduct in-process and final inspections to ensure parts meet specifications and quality standards. Troubleshoot minor machining or tooling issues to minimize downtime and scrap. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area in accordance with 5S and safety standards. Document production activities, inspection results, and quality checks as required by procedures. Collaborate with team members and supervisors to identify process improvements and support continuous improvement initiatives. Essential Skills 1-3+ years of CNC machining experience on lathes and/or mills, including set-up experience for more advanced responsibilities. Proficiency in setting up and operating CNC mills and lathes. Ability to read and interpret blueprints and Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T). Familiarity with Fanuc, Mazak, or similar CNC controls. Experience using standard inspection tools such as micrometers, calipers, and gauges. Strong mechanical aptitude and practical problem-solving skills in a machining environment. Experience working in a high-volume or precision manufacturing environment. Prior exposure to hydraulics or metal machining processes. Ability to perform basic CNC program adjustments at the machine. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience with both CNC mills and lathes in production settings. Comfort working with various CNC machine types, including lathes, mills, and machining centers. Experience with Fanuc and similar control systems, with the ability to adapt to other control platforms. Exposure to machining components used in hydraulic and power systems. Familiarity with 5S or other lean manufacturing practices. Ability to work independently on an off-shift while maintaining high quality and safety standards. Work Environment This position operates in a production manufacturing environment with multiple shifts and opportunities for overtime. Base hourly pay is supplemented with a 10% premium for 3rd shift and a 7% premium for 2nd shift. Standard shift schedules are 1st shift from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. (typically used for initial training for 1-2 months for off-shift hires), 2nd shift from 3:00 p.m. to 11:30 p.m., and 3rd shift from 11:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. Employees may work 5-10 hours of overtime, and Saturday work is possible depending on production demands and the time of year. The environment involves operating CNC mills, lathes, and machining centers with Fanuc, Mazak, or similar controls, using precision measuring tools such as micrometers, calipers, and gauges. The workplace follows 5S and safety practices, emphasizing cleanliness, organization, and safe machine operation while maintaining high-volume and precision manufacturing standards. Job Type & Location This is a Permanent position based out of Freeport, IL. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $58240.00 - $62400.00/yr.
