Manual Machinist

Overview We are seeking a skilled Manual Machinist to join our precision machining team. The ideal candidate will have hands‑on experience operating manual lathes, mills, grinders, and vertical turning lathes (VTLs). This role requires strong technical ability, attention to detail, and a commitment to producing high‑quality, accurate parts. Key Responsibilities Set up and operate manual machine tools including: Engine lathes Vertical turning lathes (VTLs) Manual mills Drill presses Surface grinders Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and work instructions Machine parts to tight tolerances using proper speeds, feeds, and tooling Inspect finished parts using micrometers, calipers, gauges, and other precision instruments Perform routine machine maintenance and report mechanical issues Select appropriate tooling and make necessary adjustments during machining Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area Collaborate with team members to meet production goals and deadlines Qualifications Proven experience as a manual machinist, including operation of a vertical turning lathe (VTL) Strong understanding of machining principles, tooling, and materials Proficiency with precision measuring tools Ability to work independently and troubleshoot machining challenges Strong attention to detail and quality standards Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and stand for extended periods Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Lockport, IL. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $35.00 - $35.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
