Manual Machinist - Lockport, IL What This Role Is All About This is a role for someone who lives and breathes machining—someone who can walk up to a massive manual lathe or VTL and feel right at home. You'll take on big parts, tight tolerances, and a wide range of materials, turning raw stock into precision components with skill, confidence, and craftsmanship. If you love the rhythm of a clean cut and the satisfaction of nailing a spec on the first try, this is your kind of shop. 🔧 What You'll Be Doing Running large manual lathes and vertical turning lathes (VTLs) with the kind of ease that only comes from years of experience. Reading and interpreting blueprints and machining drawings to bring parts to life exactly as designed. Using large micrometers, verniers, and precision measuring tools to inspect your work and hold tight tolerances. Manually setting up and turning long shafts , including cutting threads with accuracy and consistency. Operating overhead cranes to safely move large parts and tooling. Machining a wide range of materials— steel, stainless steel, alloy steels , and whatever else the job calls for. Tackling repair work, one‑off parts, and custom machining projects that keep things interesting. Keeping your work area clean, organized, and safe while contributing to a small, skilled, and collaborative team. 🛠️ What You Bring 10-15 years of hands‑on experience setting up and running large manual lathes and VTLs. Strong blueprint reading skills and the ability to translate drawings into precise machining steps. Confidence using large micrometers, verniers, and other precision measuring tools . Proven ability to manually set up and turn shafts, including threading operations. Experience operating overhead cranes safely and efficiently. Familiarity machining a variety of materials, from mild steel to stainless to high‑strength alloys. A problem‑solver's mindset, mechanical intuition, and pride in producing high‑quality work. 💪 Physical Side of the Job Lifting and maneuvering heavy materials with proper equipment. Standing for extended periods while operating machines. Working in a traditional machine shop environment with noise, oil, and metal chips. Job Type & Location This is a Permanent position based out of Lockport, IL. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $35.00 - $35.00/hr.
