CNC and Manual Machinist Job Description This role sets up and operates both manual and CNC machine tools, including lathes, milling machines, boring machines, and grinders, to machine plastic and metal workpieces to precise specifications. The machinist works to exacting tolerances, determines appropriate speeds and feeds, interprets blueprints, and may perform final inspection on finished products to ensure exceptional quality. Responsibilities Set up and operate CNC lathes and CNC mills to machine plastic and metal components to specified dimensions and tolerances. Set up and operate manual lathes and manual milling machines for production and custom workpieces. Operate additional shop equipment such as drill presses, surface grinders, Blanchard grinders, and other machine tools as needed. Determine appropriate speeds, feeds, and tooling to produce high-quality parts efficiently and consistently. Read, interpret, and work from blueprints and technical drawings to produce accurate components. Visualize the finished product from the blueprint and machining plan, anticipating critical features and dimensions. Recognize, report, and help correct errors or inconsistencies in blueprints or work instructions. Perform troubleshooting on CNC machines and processes to resolve quality or dimensional issues. Use precision measuring tools such as micrometers, calipers, height gauges, and other inspection equipment to verify part dimensions. Function as a final inspector for finished manufactured products when required, ensuring they meet all specifications and quality standards. Perform basic assembly work that requires reading and understanding blueprints when needed. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area and follow all shop safety procedures. Collaborate with supervisors and team members across shifts to support efficient production and continuous improvement. Essential Skills At least 3+ years of CNC machining experience. At least 3+ years of experience running CNC mills and CNC lathes. At least 3+ years of manufacturing or machine shop experience. Hands-on experience operating CNC lathes and CNC mills. Hands-on experience operating manual lathes and manual mills. Ability to read and interpret blueprints accurately. Experience with 5-axis CNC machines. Experience operating grinders, including surface and Blanchard grinders. Proficiency with drill presses and general machine operation. Strong mechanical aptitude and understanding of machining principles. Ability to determine appropriate speeds and feeds for various materials and tools. Ability to hold and work to exacting tolerances. Proficiency using micrometers, calipers, and height gauges for precise measurement. Troubleshooting skills for CNC machines and machining processes. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience working with robotics in a machining or manufacturing environment. Experience reading blueprints for assembly work and performing basic mechanical assembly. Comfort working with both plastic and metal workpieces. Ability to visualize finished products from blueprints and machining plans. Attention to detail and a strong focus on product quality. Willingness to serve as a final inspector for finished parts when needed. Comfort working in a union shop environment. Strong communication skills to report blueprint errors or process issues. It is a union shop with regular opportunities for overtime, including work on most holidays at enhanced pay rates. The environment includes CNC and manual machines such as lathes, mills, drill presses, surface grinders, and Blanchard grinders, along with standard precision measurement tools. Job Type & Location This is a Permanent position based out of Jeffersonville, IN. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $56160.00 - $62400.00/yr.
