Job Description

Manual Machinist Responsibilities Use a variety of precision measuring instruments, including calipers, micrometers, depth micrometers, dial bore gauges, gauge blocks, and telescoping gauges, to verify dimensions and tolerances. Inspect bearing fits and related components on different types of electric motors, pumps, and gear reducers to determine wear and required repairs. Bore and sleeve worn housings and restore them back into specified tolerances. Metalize worn bearing journals and machine them back to the correct size. Machine and replace shafts from raw stock, ensuring correct dimensions, finishes, and fits. Perform milling operations, including drilling, tapping, milling, and boring, using vertical mills. Perform lathe operations such as rough and finish turning, threading, boring, cutting tapers, drilling, and tapping. Reverse engineer broken or worn parts and machine new replacement components based on measurements and existing geometry. Thread parts using both standard and metric internal and external threading techniques. Remove broken bolts and fasteners using appropriate machining and extraction methods. Perform welding operations, including ARC, MIG, and TIG, to repair or fabricate components as needed. Operate and maintain manual shop equipment such as drill presses, boring mills, and other mechanical tools. Read and interpret basic blueprints and drawings to determine dimensions, tolerances, and machining sequences. Indicate and set up parts accurately on mills and lathes, including the use of a 4-jaw chuck, to ensure proper alignment and machining accuracy. Perform basic milling tasks such as drilling bolt holes and milling keyways to specification. Perform basic turning tasks such as turning various diameters to specified size and length. Work Environment This is a full-time role with a standard schedule of Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., with occasional overtime as needed. The position involves frequent walking, standing, sitting, bending, driving, reading, and communicating throughout the workday. You work in various environments and conditions, including a shop setting that can be dirty and is not climate controlled. The role requires regular use of manual machining equipment such as lathes, mills, drill presses, boring mills, and welding equipment, as well as hand tools like band saws, belt sanders, and hand grinders. You should be comfortable working in an industrial shop environment and following all safety practices while handling tools, machinery, and materials.
