Job Title:
5-Axis CNC Mill Machinist Job Description The 5-Axis CNC Mill Machinist sets up and operates a 5-axis CNC milling machine to produce precision components, primarily for aerospace applications. This role focuses on performing accurate set-ups, running longer production jobs, and verifying part quality using precision measuring instruments while maintaining tight tolerances. Responsibilities Set up and operate a 5-axis CNC milling machine to produce precision parts. Perform 2-3 machine set-ups per week, including tooling changes and verification of proper machine configuration. Review daily work instructions and production schedules to determine the parts and operations required for the day. Ensure the machine is set up correctly before running parts, including loading tools, setting offsets, and verifying programs as needed. Run production parts, monitor machine operation, and make necessary adjustments to maintain quality and efficiency. Complete history cards and production documentation accurately for each job run. Inspect parts using micrometers, calipers, and other precision measuring tools to confirm dimensions and tolerances are maintained. Hold and verify dimensional accuracy to within +/- 0.001 inch and general tolerances around +/- 0.002 inch as required. Read and interpret blueprints and engineering drawings to understand dimensions, tolerances, and machining requirements. Use quality instruments and gauges to perform in-process and final inspections on machined parts. Operate and adjust vertical mills and related CNC milling equipment as required. Identify and resolve basic machining issues, such as tool wear or minor dimensional deviations, by adjusting offsets or tooling. Repeat set-up and production processes as new jobs are completed and released to the machine. Maintain a clean and organized work area in a machine shop environment. Follow all safety procedures, including the use of required personal protective equipment such as safety glasses. Essential Skills At least 2 years of CNC milling experience with 4- or 5-axis machines. Proven experience setting up CNC milling machinery, including tooling changes and set-up verification. Ability to read and interpret blueprints and engineering drawings. Ability to consistently hold dimensional accuracy of +/- 0.001 inch and work with tolerances around +/- 0.002 inch. Proficiency using precision quality instruments such as micrometers and calipers for part inspection. Hands-on experience operating CNC mills, including 5-axis and vertical milling machines. Ability to follow detailed work instructions and production documentation. Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality, accurate parts. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience working in the aerospace industry or machining aerospace components. Familiarity with Haas CNC milling machines. Experience with general machining practices, including set-up and operation of various milling equipment. Comfort working with axis controls and multi-axis machining processes. Why Work Here? Join a precision-focused machine shop that offers a clean, well-organized, and climate-controlled environment designed to support high-quality work. You will work a consistent daytime schedule from Monday through Friday, allowing for predictable work-life balance. The shop's focus on aerospace parts provides opportunities to work on challenging and technically interesting components while sharpening your skills with advanced 5-axis CNC milling equipment. Safety is prioritized with clear procedures and required protective eyewear, and the smaller shop setting fosters close collaboration and a supportive, team-oriented culture. Work Environment The role is based in a smaller machine shop that produces parts for the aerospace industry. The work area is clean, well-lit, and climate-controlled, providing a comfortable and stable environment throughout the year. Typical hours are 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, offering a steady daytime schedule. Work centers around CNC milling equipment, including 5-axis and vertical mills, with common use of precision measuring tools such as micrometers and calipers.
