Fairmount Technologies (FT) is a growing advanced manufacturing company developing tooling-free CNC systems that dramatically reduce cost and lead time for aerospace and defense manufacturers. Our machines are already in production, running on real factory floors, and demand is accelerating.
Recent milestone:
FT was selected for a U.S. Department of Defense APFIT award , supporting deployment of our systems across multiple Air Force maintenance depots. This marks a major step as we scale production and expand our engineering team. We're looking for a skilled CNC Machinist to join our small, highly technical team; one who takes pride in precision and who wants to be part of something bigger than production work. What You'll Be Working On Set up and operate CNC mills and/or lathes to produce high-precision components Work from blueprints, CAD drawings, and engineering specs Machine complex parts used in advanced manufacturing equipment Custom parts for new machine builds, prototypes, and system upgrades Collaborate with engineers and team members to improve processes and quality Maintain tight tolerances and high-quality standards in a low-to-mid volume environment This role is focused on a high level of detailed accuracy to fabricate quality custom components. Why This Role Is Different Small company → high ownership and visibility More variety
- Complex, custom components instead of repetitive runs Higher-level work
- Tight tolerances and precision parts that directly impact machine performance Real impact
- Your work contributes to building entire systems, not just individual parts Collaboration with engineering
- Work closely with designers to solve problems and improve processes You'll move beyond production machining and into precision work that helps build the machines that advance manufacturing technologies. What We Offer Competitive salary based on experience and scope of role (Typical range: $60,000
- $75,000+ for specialized role) Flexible working hours Profit sharing , so you benefit directly from the company's success Opportunity to earn phantom equity , allowing you to share in the value you help create (phantom equity provides real economic upside without the complexity or tax burden of traditional equity ownership) Direct access to leadership and technical decision-making Long-term growth as production volume and system complexity increase This Role Might Be Right for You If You're an experienced CNC machinist who enjoys setup, problem-solving, and precision work You take pride in holding tight tolerances and producing high-quality parts You're looking to move beyond repetitive production into more complex, meaningful work You enjoy working from prints and figuring out how to machine challenging components You want to be part of building complete machines—not just running parts You're comfortable working in a low-volume, high-mix environment 5+ years of experience in machining high-precision components is preferred.
Proficiency in CAD/CAM software and G-code, as well as programming in MasterCAM, is important. Experience with multi-axis machining (4-axis / 5-axis) and a strong understanding of tooling, speeds & feeds, and process optimization is a plus. Don't meet every qualification? If you're a skilled machinist who takes pride in your work, we still encourage you to apply.
