Full Job Description Job Title:
Conventional Machinist Job Summary The Conventional Machinist is responsible for setting up and operating manual machining equipment (e.g., lathes, mills, hones) to manufacture precision aerospace components. This role requires strict adherence to aerospace quality standards, engineering specifications, and safety protocols while maintaining tight tolerances and high repeatability. Key Responsibilities Set up and operate conventional/manual machines, including: Manual lathes Manual mills (Bridgeport) Honing and grinding machines Interpret complex aerospace engineering drawings, blueprints, and GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing) Machine a variety of materials such as aluminum, titanium, stainless steel, and high-temperature alloys Perform precision measurements using tools such as micrometers, calipers, bore gauges, and height gauges Maintain tolerances often within ±0.0005" or tighter, depending on part requirements Perform in-process inspections to ensure compliance with aerospace standards Deburr, polish, and finish parts to specification Document work performed in accordance with AS9100 and customer traceability requirements Maintain equipment, tooling, and work area in a clean and safe condition Collaborate with quality, engineering, and inspection teams to resolve machining or dimensional issues Required Qualifications High school diploma or GED; technical certification in machining preferred 3-7+ years of experience in manual machining, preferably in aerospace or other high-precision industries Strong understanding of GD&T and blueprint reading Proficiency with precision measuring instruments Experience working with tight tolerances and complex geometries Ability to work from process sheets, routers, and work instructions Preferred Qualifications Experience in a Tier 1 aerospace supplier environment Familiarity with AS9100 quality systems Basic CNC knowledge (for cross-training or hybrid environments) Tool grinding or custom tooling experience preferred Skills & Competencies High attention to detail and quality Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills Ability to work independently with minimal supervision Good communication and teamwork skills Time management and ability to meet production deadlines Work Environment Manufacturing/shop floor environment with exposure to: Machine noise Coolants and metal chips Standing for extended periods Use of PPE (safety glasses, steel-toe boots, hearing protection) required Quality & Compliance Expectations Adhere to aerospace standards such as AS9100 and customer-specific requirements Ensure full traceability of materials and processes Participate in audits and continuous improvement initiatives Follow all safety and regulatory requirements (e.g., OSHA)
Pay:
$30.00 - $40.00 per hour
