Job Description

Job Title:
Machinist Job Description The Machinist programs, sets up, and operates 3- and 5-axis routers, mills, and other machining centers to produce precision parts that meet exact specifications and quality standards. This role designs and develops tooling and fixtures, interprets 2D prints and 3D models, and collaborates closely with engineering, sales, and production teams to ensure parts meet customer requirements while maintaining a safe, clean, and efficient work environment. Responsibilities Generate CNC programs for 3- and 5-axis routers, mills, and other machining centers using CAD/CAM systems. Design and develop tooling and machining fixtures to support efficient and accurate production. Read and comprehend work orders, production instructions, 2D prints, and 3D models to determine machining requirements. Track and document all revisions to product drawings, tooling, and related documentation. Partner with engineering and sales teams to ensure parts meet customer specifications and performance expectations. Provide feedback to management on potential risks, process improvements, and problem resolution related to machining and tooling. Ensure all projects and parts comply with required specifications and internal quality standards. Precisely machine parts to specifications using CNC mills, 3- and 5-axis routers, and related equipment such as Haas, Fadal, and DMS machines. Accurately calculate dimensions and tolerances using mathematics and measuring instruments such as gauges, calipers, and micrometers. Complete machine setups according to part specifications, including tooling, offsets, and workholding. Monitor machine feed and speed during machining processes and make adjustments to maintain quality and efficiency. Verify that materials, molds, and tooling meet quality standards and are production ready. Assist with machine maintenance and adhere to established maintenance schedules to ensure reliable operation. Perform all job responsibilities using safe and proper techniques in accordance with company standards of conduct and integrity. Consistently meet or exceed company productivity standards while maintaining quality. Comply with all health and safety regulations and follow all company quality policies and standards related to the job function. Follow supervisor direction on all assignments and communicate effectively on job status and requirements. Collaborate with supervisors and plant teams to support efficient product production and problem solving. Work on multiple assignments simultaneously while maintaining organization, logical thinking, and effective time management. Share ideas, listen to others, and learn from team members to improve productivity and processes. Demonstrate flexibility in priorities and adaptability to changing production needs. Maintain a neat, clean, and safe work environment at all times. Perform other related assignments as required to support the machining and production operations. Lift up to 50 pounds repeatedly throughout the shift as needed for materials, tooling, and setups. Essential Skills High school education or equivalent. Several years of CNC machining and programming experience. Experience in a machine shop, job shop, or production environment. Ability to program, set up, and operate CNC mills, 3- and 5-axis routers, and other machining centers. Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints, 2D prints, and 3D models. Ability to calculate dimensions and tolerances using mathematics and precision measuring instruments such as gauges, calipers, and micrometers. Proficient with CAD/CAM systems for generating CNC programs. Knowledge of MasterCAM. Knowledge of SolidWorks. Ability to perform accurate machine setups to part specifications. Capability to monitor and adjust machine feed and speed during machining processes. Strong organizational skills, logical thinking, and effective time management. Ability to work on multiple assignments simultaneously without compromising quality. Effective verbal communication skills to interact with supervisors and plant teams. Ability to repeatedly lift up to 50 pounds throughout the shift. Commitment to following health, safety, and quality regulations and procedures. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience designing and developing tooling and machining fixtures. Experience using CNC equipment such as Haas, Fadal, and DMS machines. Experience with machine setup, operation, programming, and changeover in a production or job shop setting. Hands-on experience with grinders and lathes. Demonstrated ability to track and document revisions to product drawings and tooling. Proven record of consistently achieving productivity standards while maintaining high quality. Ability to collaborate with engineering and sales teams to meet customer specifications. Strong teamwork skills, including sharing ideas, listening to others, and learning to improve productivity. Demonstrated flexibility in handling changing priorities and production demands. Ability to maintain a neat, clean, and safe work area in a manufacturing environment. Why Work Here? Work Environment The role is based in a small, family-oriented machine shop environment that emphasizes cleanliness, organization, and safety. The work schedule runs Monday through Thursday from 6:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and Friday from 6:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., with not much overtime expected. You will work with CNC mills, 3- and 5-axis routers, and equipment such as Haas, Fadal, and DMS machines, using CAD/CAM tools including MasterCAM and SolidWorks in a production and job shop setting. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Baltimore, MD. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $32.00/hr.
