Job Title:
Electrical Machine Builder Job Description The Electrical Machine Builder assembles and wires custom industrial machines, working from electrical schematics to complete all electrical aspects of new builds. You will collaborate closely with a team of builders, electricians, fabricators, machinists, and engineers to ensure each machine is wired correctly, tested thoroughly, and ready for on-time delivery to customers. Responsibilities Run and install electrical wiring for custom-built machines, ensuring clean, accurate, and safe installations. Perform complete panel wiring for new build machines, including mounting and wiring components and control panels. Wire and install AC motors ranging from 110 volts up to 480 volts as required by each project. Work from electrical schematics to build and wire machines, accurately interpreting drawings and documentation. Hook up PLC units and control wiring to panels and machines according to design specifications. Perform 24V wiring for control circuits and related components. Use basic hand tools and power tools to assemble, wire, and complete machine builds. Collaborate with a team of 3-10 builders and electricians on each machine, following direction from the designated lead. Support fabrication, machining, and engineering teams to ensure machines are built, wired, and ready for shipment on schedule. Follow all safety procedures and use required PPE, including safety glasses and work boots. Assist with mechanical assembly, machine building, and panel building tasks as needed. Contribute to the wiring and assembly of conveyor systems and automation equipment. Maintain an organized work area and help keep the shop environment clean and efficient. Troubleshoot and resolve basic wiring and assembly issues during the build process. Essential Skills At least 2 years of electrical wiring experience on new build machines. At least 2 years of panel wiring experience, including wiring panels and connecting PLC units to machines. At least 2 years of experience reading and interpreting electrical schematics to build and wire machines. At least 2 years of experience working with 110-480 volt AC motors. At least 2 years of experience with 24V wiring for control circuits. Ability to perform electrical wiring, panel wiring, and electrical assembly with minimal supervision. Proficiency with basic hand tools and power tools used for electrical and mechanical assembly. Ability to read and follow detailed schematics, diagrams, and build documentation. Ownership of personal tools, including basic hand tools, wire strippers, and crimpers. Comfort working in a team environment with other builders, electricians, and technical staff. Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship. Ability to safely work with AC motors and electrical systems across a range of voltages. Additional Skills & Qualifications Technical training or schooling in electrical, industrial, or related fields. Previous experience with machine installation or machine building. Experience working with conveyor systems and automation equipment. Experience in panel building, control panels, and mechanical assembly. Experience with welding, stainless steel work, or mechanical assembly is beneficial. Journeyman Electrician credential is a plus. Familiarity with automation systems, robotics, and material handling equipment is advantageous. Why Work Here? Work Environment The work environment is a clean, organized, and climate-controlled manufacturing facility focused on custom automation and machine building. The plant features freshly painted walls and an ever-changing production floor, with multiple projects in progress and machines frequently shipping out and new builds starting. You will work on 1st shift, generally from 6:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with a typical workweek of 50-60 hours, which may be completed during the week or with additional Saturday work as needed. The environment can become loud at times when machines are running in the machine shop, but overall noise levels are manageable. You will work closely with teams of 3-10 people, supporting fabrication, machining, and engineering departments to complete machines on schedule. Required PPE includes work boots and safety glasses. The dress code allows for comfortable attire such as nice jeans and a polo shirt, and the clean, climate-controlled setting helps keep clothing in good condition while providing a comfortable place to work. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Shoreham, MI. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $30.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
