Job Description

Job Title:
Plasma Operator Job Description The Plasma Operator uses advanced fabrication equipment to produce high-quality parts for dump truck body welding areas. This role focuses on operating a Trumpf laser and cross-training on additional fabrication machinery such as CNC equipment, plasma cutters, saws, and brake presses. The operator reads and interprets blueprints and work instructions, uses measuring tools to verify accuracy, and follows computer-based procedures to ensure parts meet internal customer specifications. This is a hands-on production role in a large manufacturing environment with opportunities for cross-training and advancement. Responsibilities Operate a Trumpf laser to cut parts according to work orders, blueprints, and specifications. Use a computer to view and follow work procedures, blueprints, due dates, and special instructions for each job. Load the water table using an overhead hoist, position material correctly, and run nests using computer-controlled programs. Pick parts from the table after cutting, including climbing onto the table when necessary to reach parts safely. Remove sharp edges from parts using a chipping tool to ensure safe handling and proper fit for downstream processes. Label, stack, and organize finished parts so they are clearly identified and ready for internal customers. Remove remaining skeleton material from the cutting table and prepare the table for the next job cycle. Read and interpret blueprints and WPS specifications to ensure parts meet dimensional and quality requirements. Use measuring tools such as tape measures, micrometers, and dial calipers to verify part dimensions and tolerances. Learn, understand, edit, and run machine programs for CNC lathes and machining centers as required. Adjust machine settings and parameters based on job specifications and instructions to maintain quality and productivity. Cross-train and operate additional fabrication equipment such as brake presses, saws, lasers, and punch equipment as needed. Rotate between machines and work areas regularly to meet production schedules, team needs, and safety recommendations. Perform basic computer data entry related to job tracking, part completion, and machine operations. Follow all safety procedures when using overhead lifting devices, fabrication equipment, and tools. Maintain a clean and organized work area to support efficient workflow and a safe working environment. Essential Skills At least 6 months of machine operating or fabricating experience in a factory setting. Experience reading blueprints and WPS specifications to guide fabrication work. Proficiency in reading a tape measure accurately for production measurements. Ability to read job specifications and determine appropriate machine adjustments. Ability to learn, understand, edit, and run machine programs for CNC lathes and machining centers. Ability to read and interpret complicated instructions, blueprints, and use measuring devices effectively. Comfort using an overhead lifting device for material handling on the production floor. Ability to perform basic math functions to support measuring, layout, and machine setup tasks. Ability to navigate and use a computer for viewing work instructions and performing basic data entry. Capability to learn operations of multiple machines and jigs within a job area and rotate between them regularly. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience reading micrometers and dial calipers is strongly preferred. Previous experience operating fabrication equipment such as plasma cutters, brake presses, saws, lasers, or punch equipment is beneficial. Willingness to cross-train on multiple machines and adapt to changing production needs. Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing quality parts. Comfort working in a large manufacturing environment with overhead cranes and welding activity nearby. Openness to future cross-training on forklift equipment depending on performance and operational needs. Why Work Here? Employees benefit from a collaborative manufacturing environment that encourages cross-training, skill development, and internal advancement. The organization supports learning new equipment and processes, offering exposure to a wide range of modern fabrication technologies. Team members work a consistent weekly schedule with defined shifts, promoting predictable work-life balance. Work Environment The role is based on a large, open factory floor with multiple welding stations and fabrication areas. Lighting is somewhat dim due to welding operations, and large overhead cranes run throughout the facility to support material handling. Ventilation is well maintained to support a comfortable and safe atmosphere. The position follows set shifts, including a 2nd shift option from 4:15 p.m. to 2:45 a.m., Monday through Thursday, and a weekend shift option from Friday through Sunday, 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., where employees work 36 hours. Work involves standing for extended periods, operating fabrication machinery, using overhead hoists, and occasionally climbing onto cutting tables to retrieve parts. Standard industrial workwear appropriate for a fabrication and welding environment is expected. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of
