Job Description

CNC Machinist Job Description The CNC Machinist sets up and operates CNC mills, lathes, or routers to produce precision parts in a clean, well-organized, and temperature-controlled manufacturing environment. This role involves basic G & M code programming at the machine, interpreting blueprints and technical drawings, performing quality inspections, and collaborating with the production team to meet daily goals. Responsibilities Set up and operate CNC machines, including mills, lathes, or routers, to produce precision components according to specifications. Perform basic programming and editing of G & M code directly at the machine to adjust or optimize machining operations. Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and work instructions to determine machining requirements and proper setups. Perform changeovers between different jobs and parts, including selecting tools, setting offsets, and loading programs. Operate multiple CNC machines as needed to support production schedules and workflow. Inspect finished parts using measuring tools such as calipers, micrometers, and gauges to verify that all parts meet quality and dimensional standards. Troubleshoot minor issues with machines or programs and escalate more complex problems to the appropriate personnel when necessary. Conduct routine maintenance and cleaning of machines to ensure reliable operation and extend equipment life. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area in accordance with safety and housekeeping standards. Collaborate with team members and supervisors to meet production goals and continuously improve processes. Use basic math and computer skills to calculate dimensions, verify measurements, and input or adjust machine parameters. Follow all company procedures, safety guidelines, and work instructions consistently throughout each shift. Essential Skills Ability to set up and operate CNC machines such as mills, lathes, or routers in a production environment. Basic understanding of G & M code programming and the ability to make simple edits at the machine. Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints, technical drawings, and work instructions. Skill in using precision measuring tools, including calipers, micrometers, and gauges, to inspect finished parts. Familiarity with operating multiple CNC machines and managing changeovers between different jobs. Strong attention to detail and a consistent commitment to producing high-quality work. Ability to troubleshoot minor machine or program issues and recognize when to escalate problems. Basic math and computer skills to support measurements, calculations, and machine input. Willingness to learn, adapt, and follow established processes in a team-oriented environment. Previous experience in a manufacturing or machine shop environment. Knowledge of different materials, such as aluminum, steel, and plastics, and how they affect machining processes. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience with CAD/CAM software to support programming and machining operations. Familiarity with machining a variety of parts for different applications within the business. Ability to work effectively with supervisors and team members to support production goals and process improvements. Strong organizational skills to maintain an orderly work area and manage multiple tasks during the shift. Why Work Here? Work Environment This role is based in a temperature-controlled, clean, and well-kept manufacturing facility. The workspace is organized into dedicated sections to support efficient workflow, with all CNC machines located in one area and welding operations in a separate area. Large bay doors are opened when the weather is pleasant, providing fresh air, while the environment remains temperature controlled during other times. The position follows a first-shift schedule of Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Team members work around modern CNC equipment and standard inspection tools in an organized, safety-conscious setting. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Concord, NC. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $30.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
