Manual Machinist Location:
Climate controlled facility in Beachwood OH.
Hours:
7am•3:30pm
Pay:
$20•23/hour (paid weekly + eligible for overtime) About Helix Linear We manufacture precision ball screws and linear components for aerospace, medical, and defense. We need a skilled manual machinist, someone who can set up and run Bridgeport mills and engine lathes independently, read a blueprint fluently, and hold tight tolerances without hand-holding. Hard Requirements 3+ years operating and setting up Bridgeport-style knee mills and manual engine/toolroom lathes — required, not preferred Must be able to read blueprints and GD&T (ASME Y14.5) and translate them into a machining plan Must be able to set up from a blank table or bare chuck — independently, without being walked through it Must be skilled with precision measuring instruments: micrometers, calipers, dial/test indicators, gauge pins, thread gauges, height gauges Must be comfortable with shop math (trig, feeds/speeds, decimal/fraction conversions) Must be able to hold tolerances to ±0.0001" on appropriate features Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and stand for extended periods Must be a U.S. person (citizen or lawful permanent resident) — required by U.S. export control law If you don't have direct manual machining experience, this role isn't the right fit. What You'll Do Set up and operate Bridgeport-style mills and manual lathes to machine prototypes, fixtures, tooling, and short-run production parts Machine steel, stainless, aluminum, brass, and engineered plastics to print Perform face, turn, bore, drill, ream, tap, thread (single-point and tap), knurl, mill, slot, counterbore, and chamfer operations Inspect your own work, first-piece, in-process, and final, to Helix and quality system standards (AS9100/ISO 9001) Partner with CNC machinists, engineering, and quality on prototypes, rework, and bridge production Perform daily machine checks, basic PM, and maintain a clean, 5S-ready work area Nice to Have Experience machining lead screws, ball screws, shafts, or linear motion components Background in
AS9100, ISO
