Job Title:
Lathe Machinist (CNC - Haas/Mori) Job Description This role focuses on operating and setting up CNC lathes, primarily Haas and similar machines, to manufacture precision components for the electronics industry based on customer specifications. You will perform basic setups, program and control edits, and use a variety of measuring tools to ensure parts meet quality and dimensional requirements in a relaxed, job-shop environment. Responsibilities Operate and set up CNC lathes, including Haas and similar machines, for production runs and custom jobs. Perform basic machine setups, including tooling changes, work holding, and offset adjustments. Read and interpret blueprints, work instructions, and customer specifications to produce accurate parts. Utilize measuring tools such as calipers, micrometers, and pin gauges to inspect and verify part dimensions. Apply GD&T principles when interpreting drawings and inspecting finished components. Perform program and control edits using G-code to refine and optimize machining processes as needed. Monitor CNC machine operations, make necessary adjustments, and ensure consistent part quality throughout production. Inspect parts during and after machining, documenting results and addressing any nonconformances. Follow and maintain all safety procedures and guidelines while working on machines and in the shop. Manufacture components and custom fixtures for the electronics industry from customer specifications in a job-shop setting. Maintain cleanliness and organization of machines and the shop area, including routine cleaning and minor maintenance. Collaborate with team members to troubleshoot machining issues and improve processes. Essential Skills Proven experience operating and setting up CNC lathes, including Haas or similar CNC machines. Ability to perform basic machine setups and tooling changes independently. Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints and work instructions. Strong blueprint reading skills, including understanding of dimensions, tolerances, and GD&T. Hands-on experience using measuring tools such as calipers, micrometers, and pin gauges for inspection. Working knowledge of G-code and the ability to perform program and control edits at the machine. Experience with CNC machine operation, including start-up, monitoring, and shutdown procedures. Familiarity with GD&T concepts and their application in machining and inspection. Ability to perform machine setups, including work offsets and tool offsets, in a CNC environment. Experience with Fanuc or similar CNC controls for programming or program edits. Commitment to following safety procedures and maintaining a safe work environment. Capability to maintain and clean machines and shop areas regularly. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience working in a job-shop environment producing custom, to-order components or fixtures. Background in machining components for the electronics industry or similar precision manufacturing sectors. Experience machining or assembling custom fixtures for soldering or related manufacturing processes. Comfort working with multiple CNC platforms such as Haas and Fanuc controls. Strong attention to detail and quality-focused mindset in a production environment. Ability to troubleshoot minor machine and program issues and suggest process improvements. Effective communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with a small, close-knit team. Why Work Here? You will work primarily on CNC lathes, including Haas and machines with Fanuc controls, producing custom, to-order fixtures and components for the electronics industry. The environment emphasizes safety, cleanliness, and organization, with regular machine and shop maintenance as part of the daily routine. Attire is typical for a machine shop, suitable for hands-on work around CNC equipment and manufacturing processes. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Hillsboro, OR. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $26.00 - $30.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
