Job Title:
CNC Machinist Job Description This role focuses on setting up, operating, and performing light program edits on CNC mills and lathes in a clean, climate-controlled manufacturing environment. You will work primarily on horizontal and vertical machining centers to produce precision parts from customer prints with tight tolerances, while maintaining accurate documentation and consistently high quality. Responsibilities Set up and operate CNC mills and/or lathes, including horizontal and vertical machining centers. Perform machine setups independently, including tooling selection, offsets, and part fixturing. Load, run, and lightly edit CNC programs (including G-code) as needed to meet print specifications. Machine parts from customer prints, ensuring compliance with tight tolerances of approximately +/- 0.001 to 0.002 inch. Use precision measuring tools such as calipers, micrometers, and gauges to inspect parts and verify dimensions. Complete final inspection of parts at the end of fabrication and document results as required. Read and interpret blueprints to determine machining operations, sequence, and dimensions. Work with various CNC equipment including Okuma, Haas, Kitamura, and similar machining centers. Set up and use supporting equipment such as drill presses and shears when needed. Maintain accurate documentation related to jobs, parts, and customer requirements. Work independently, managing your own machine and workflow without constant supervision. Follow all shop procedures and safety practices while maintaining a clean and organized work area. Demonstrate reliable attendance and consistent productivity throughout the shift. Essential Skills Proven ability to set up and operate CNC mills or lathes independently. Ability to set up machinery and perform light CNC program edits. Hands-on experience with horizontal and vertical machining centers. Strong proficiency using precision measuring tools such as calipers, micrometers, and gauges. Ability to work to tight tolerances in the range of approximately +/- 0.001 to 0.002 inch. Blueprint reading skills to interpret customer prints and machining requirements. Familiarity with G-code and CNC program adjustments at the machine control. Ability to handle and manage your own CNC machine without needing constant guidance. Verifiable history of strong attendance and reliability. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience with Mastercam or similar CAM software is beneficial. Knowledge of 4th axis machining is a plus. Experience working with Okuma, Kitamura, and Haas machining centers is preferred. Experience working with tooling and live tooling on CNC equipment. Experience using drill presses and shears in a machining environment. Comfort working in a contract manufacturing environment with an emphasis on documentation and quality. Why Work Here? Work Environment The position is based in a clean, climate-controlled manufacturing facility. The primary schedule is first shift, typically 6:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Monday through Thursday or approximately 6:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. with typical 9-hour days, plus Saturday hours from 6:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. as needed. You will work with CNC mills and lathes, including Okuma, Kitamura, and Haas machining centers, as well as supporting equipment such as drill presses and shears. The environment supports focused, independent work on well-maintained machines, with an expectation of professionalism, safety, and consistent attendance. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Pittsburgh, PA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $16.00 - $22.00/hr.
