The CNC Machinist III is an advanced-level machining role responsible for complex part programming, setup, and production of precision components used in the manufacture of orthotic and prosthetic devices. This role requires deep technical expertise in CNC programming, tooling strategy, and problem resolution. The CNC Machinist III serves as a technical resource on the shop floor, supporting production continuity, mentoring junior machinists, and driving quality and efficiency improvements. This position plays a key role in ensuring that machined components meet the exacting tolerances and quality standards required for patient-critical O&P devices. Select cutting tools, fixtures, and machining strategies for complex part geometries
Calculate and set machining parameters including speed, feed, depth of cut, and coolant flow
Monitor machine operations to identify malfunctions or out-of-tolerance conditions and implement corrective actions
Perform advanced troubleshooting of machining issues, tooling failures, and fit-up problems
Support mold, fixture, and tooling refinement to improve manufacturability and cycle time
Provide technical guidance and mentoring to Machinist I and II level team members
Collaborate with engineering and quality teams to resolve complex part and process issues
Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment; model safety standards for the team Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent required; Trade Certificate or relevant apprenticeship strongly preferred
5+ years of CNC machining experience with demonstrated progression in responsibility Additional Success Factors 5+ years of experience in a manufacturing environment with demonstrated proficiency in CNC machining operations
Has gained proficiency across multiple CNC machining competencies including setup, programming, tooling, and complex part production
Works independently within established procedures with minimal supervision; exercises sound judgment in daily operations
Capable of programming less complex parts at the machine and supporting programming of more advanced components
Advanced ability to read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and GD&T requirements
Skilled in selecting cutting tools, fixtures, and machining strategies for complex part geometries
Ability to calculate and set machining parameters including speed, feed, depth of cut, and coolant flow
Strong troubleshooting skills across machining issues, tooling failures, and fit-up problems
Experienced in supporting mold, fixture, and tooling refinement to improve manufacturability
Ability to mentor and provide technical guidance to lower level machinists
