Job Description

Job Summary We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Steel Plant Operator to join our manufacturing team. The successful candidate will be responsible for operating and maintaining various machinery and equipment used in steel production, ensuring safety, efficiency, and quality standards are met consistently. This role offers an opportunity to work in a dynamic environment where precision, technical expertise, and adherence to safety protocols are paramount. The ideal applicant will possess a strong mechanical aptitude, experience with advanced fabrication tools, and a commitment to producing high-quality steel products. Responsibilities Operate heavy machinery including cranes, press brake machines, CNC milling machines, CNC lathes, plasma cutters, and stamping presses to facilitate steel fabrication processes. Set up and calibrate CNC laser cutting and CNC programming systems to ensure precise cuts and dimensions. Perform routine inspections of equipment using precision measuring instruments such as micrometers, calipers, and other quality inspection tools. Read and interpret complex blueprints and technical drawings to accurately assemble components and fabricate sheet metal parts. Conduct welding operations utilizing various techniques while adhering to safety standards and quality specifications. Maintain proper tooling setups for machining operations, including CNC machining, grinding, and electrical discharge machining (EDM). Operate forklifts and cranes safely to move raw materials and finished products within the plant. Monitor production processes continuously to identify issues or deviations; troubleshoot mechanical problems promptly. Ensure compliance with safety regulations by following proper lockout/tagout procedures during maintenance activities. Assist in the assembly of fabricated parts, ensuring accuracy and adherence to specifications. Support quality control efforts by inspecting finished products for dimensional accuracy using precision measuring instruments. Maintain detailed records of machine operation logs, maintenance activities, and inspection reports. Skills Proficiency in operating industrial machinery such as CNC laser cutters, CNC milling machines, CNC lathes, plasma cutters, stamping presses, press brake machines, welding equipment, and electrical discharge machining tools. Strong mechanical knowledge with the ability to troubleshoot mechanical issues efficiently. Experience with blueprint reading and interpreting technical drawings accurately. Skilled in using hand tools, calipers, micrometers, and other precision measuring instruments for quality inspection. Knowledge of manufacturing processes including sheet metal fabrication, assembly, tooling setup, and material handling. Ability to operate forklifts and cranes safely within a manufacturing environment. Basic math skills necessary for measurements, calculations related to machining tolerances, and process adjustments. Familiarity with CNC programming principles for setting up machines for production runs. Understanding of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing) standards for precise manufacturing specifications. Competence in using hand tools for fabrication tasks involving sheet metal or small component assembly. Commitment to maintaining safety standards while working with potentially hazardous equipment or materials. Pay:
$18.00 - $21.00 per hour
