Lathe Full Job Description Job Overview:
Work alongside a small team of machinists who perform and support all machining efforts for a wide variety of metals processed by a material testing laboratory. The core of this role is manual machining — our shop runs manual lathes and mills daily, and we need someone who is truly comfortable there. The ability to cross over and operate CNC equipment and saws as needed is a plus, but manual skill is what we're looking for first.Responsibilities include:
Independently set up and operate manual and CNC machinery Read and interpret work orders, work instructions, and technical drawings Change cutting tools and adjust feeds and speeds Perform daily preventative maintenance Maintain a safe and clean work areaSkills and Qualifications:
High School diploma or equivalent required. At least 3 years of hands-on machining experience preferred, with a strong background in manual work.Important skills include:
Demonstrated experience with manual lathes, mills, and grinders Comfort with manual cutting, turning, milling, and grinding across a variety of metals Knowledge of the machining properties of different metals Experience with common metalworking tools (drill press, band saw, belt sander, etc.) Ability to read and interpret technical drawings Familiarity with CNC operation and G/M code is a plus, but not required — we can teach the right person Strong communication skills and ability to multi-task, prioritize, and meet deadlines Friendly, reliable team player who takes quality and customer service seriouslyWorking Conditions:
Work is performed in a small, air-conditioned machine shop within a laboratory environment. Standard 40-hour work week; occasional overtime may be required. Core hours are 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM with some start-time flexibility. Physical requirements include standing for extended periods and lifting/moving objects up to 75 pounds.Pay:
