Job Description

Composite Layup Technician Job Description The Composite Layup Technician fabricates high-quality composite parts by accurately placing, orienting, and bonding materials into molds or tooling in accordance with engineering drawings, ply books, work instructions, and defined quality requirements. This role focuses on the pre-cure manufacturing phase of composite components and plays a key part in supporting advanced applications across critical industries. Responsibilities Perform precise hand layup of composite materials, including prepregs, fabrics, adhesives, and films, to build parts that meet engineering and quality standards. Cut, kit, and stage composite materials according to job requirements, ensuring correct identification and readiness for layup. Interpret and follow ply books, travelers, engineering drawings, and written work instructions to ensure accurate part configuration. Ensure proper fiber orientation, ply sequence, material placement, and overall part configuration during layup to meet design specifications. Apply resins, adhesives, and bonding films as required for each job, maintaining consistent coverage and quality. Perform vacuum bagging and debulking operations and prepare parts for curing processes in accordance with process requirements. Maintain material handling controls, including monitoring freezer life, tracking out-time, and meeting cleanliness requirements for all composite materials. Inspect in-process work for conformity to specifications and requirements prior to cure, identifying and addressing any discrepancies. Complete all required manufacturing and quality documentation accurately and on time to support traceability and compliance. Adhere to all safety, environmental, and quality system requirements while performing daily tasks. Support rework activities by following defined instructions to correct nonconformances in composite parts. Participate in continuous improvement activities to enhance processes, quality, and efficiency within the composite layup area. Work a Monday through Friday schedule from 6:00 AM to 2:30 PM and remain comfortable working overtime as needed to meet production demands. Essential Skills Strong attention to detail and manual dexterity to perform precise composite layup work. Understanding of composite materials, fiber orientation, and lamination techniques (preferred but highly beneficial). Ability to work in controlled environments and follow personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements. Basic math and measurement skills to interpret dimensions and verify part accuracy. High school diploma or equivalent (preferred). Prior experience in composite layup, aerospace manufacturing, or a related field (preferred). Eligibility to work as a U.S. Person as defined by 22 C.F.R. §120.15 Additional Skills & Qualifications Familiarity with reading and interpreting engineering drawings, ply books, and travelers. Experience working with prepregs, fabrics, adhesives, and films in a manufacturing environment. Experience in aerospace, thermal solutions, or other high-reliability manufacturing environments. Comfort working under defined quality system requirements and contributing to continuous improvement initiatives. Why Work Here? Work Environment This role is based at an industrial manufacturing site focused on composite and thermal solution production. You will work primarily in a controlled manufacturing environment that requires adherence to safety procedures and the use of appropriate personal protective equipment. The standard schedule is Monday through Friday from 6:00 AM to 2:30 PM, with overtime as needed to meet production requirements. The work involves hands-on tasks with composite materials, vacuum bagging equipment, and related manufacturing tools. The facility maintains cleanliness and material handling controls, including freezer storage and out-time tracking for composites. Typical attire includes a T-shirt, jeans, and tennis shoes, supplemented by any required PPE. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Anaheim, CA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $37.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
