Shift A:
M-Th, 7:00 AM - 5:30 PM Position Overview Join the Modus Advanced team as a Masker in our Coatings Department and play a critical role in the precision coating process. In this hands-on role, you'll be responsible for precisely masking components prior to the spray coating process, ensuring critical areas remain uncoated. Your precision work directly impacts the quality and functionality of components used in life-saving medical devices, mission-critical defense systems, and aerospace applications. At Modus Advanced, one day matters. Every masking application you complete ensures that coatings land exactly where they should—and nowhere else. When an EMI shield coating needs to cover specific areas while leaving connector interfaces clean, or when a thermal coating must stop precisely at a mating surface, your work makes the difference between a part that performs and one that doesn't.
Key Responsibilities:
Masking Operations Apply masking materials (tapes, plugs, caps, liquid masking, fixtures) to designated areas of parts with exacting precision to prevent coating application Interpret technical drawings and specifications to determine proper masking requirements Prepare surfaces prior to masking to ensure proper adhesion of masking materials Select appropriate masking materials based on part geometry, coating type, and temperature requirements Remove masking materials post-coating without damaging the coated surfaces or underlying part Perform minor touch-ups following inspection as needed Quality Control and Inspection Inspect masked parts for quality and compliance with engineering specifications before releasing to coating Verify masking coverage and edge lines against technical drawings Identify and report any part defects or conditions that could affect coating quality Maintain detailed records of masking processes for quality traceability Support quality team with process feedback and inspection data Workspace and Materials Management Clean and organize work area, equipment, and masking materials according to 5S principles Maintain inventory of masking materials and supplies Properly store masking materials to maintain their effectiveness Follow all safety protocols and procedures when handling parts and chemicals Coordinate with coating technicians on production priorities and scheduling Identify and recommend process improvements to increase efficiency and quality
Required Qualifications:
Education and Experience Ability to read, understand, and communicate in English High school diploma or equivalent required 1+ years of experience in manufacturing, assembly, or similar detail-oriented technical role preferred Experience with masking techniques, spray coating, or similar precision manual processes a plus Experience in aerospace, defense, or medical device manufacturing a plus Technical Skills Ability to read and understand technical drawings and specifications Strong manual dexterity for precise application of masking materials Basic understanding of quality control principles Attention to detail for identifying masking defects and quality issues Ability to follow detailed instructions and maintain focus on repetitive tasks Computer literacy for basic data entry and documentation Physical Requirements Ability to stand for extended periods while performing detailed hand work Manual dexterity to handle small parts and apply masking materials with precision Visual acuity to detect small details and imperfections Ability to wear required personal protective equipment during entire shift Ability to lift up to 25 pounds occasionally Personal Attributes Exceptional attention to detail and precision Reliable and consistent work ethic Patience and focus for intricate, detail-oriented work Commitment to safety standards and procedures Good communication skills for coordinating with coating team Willingness to learn and follow established procedures Team-oriented mindset with ability to work independently when needed
