Job Title:
Shop Helper Job Description The Shop Helper supports multiple departments in a dynamic startup technology environment by assisting with production, assembly, logistics, and deployment activities. This role builds and assembles desks, chairs, and other furniture, helps manage warehouse inventory, and assists engineers with mechanical assembly, repair work, and troubleshooting equipment. The position requires someone who is comfortable wearing many hats, moving between two work sites, and adapting to evolving priorities as the company grows and relocates. Responsibilities Support various departments, including production, logistics, deployment, and warehouse operations, based on daily needs. Build and assemble desks, chairs, and other furniture to support office and operational setups. Perform mechanical assembly of units and components according to instructions and quality standards. Load and unload containers with parts, equipment, and assembled units in a safe and efficient manner. Assist with general labor and general production tasks as assigned to keep operations running smoothly. Support warehouse inventory activities, including organizing, moving, and staging parts and materials. Work closely with engineers to support mechanical assembly and repair jobs as needed. Troubleshoot and help fix issues related to software boxes and related equipment under guidance. Assist the deployment team with preparation, assembly, and logistics support for outgoing equipment. Help support the company's move to the new facility in El Segundo, including moving parts, equipment, and furniture. Operate effectively between two work sites, adjusting to shifting priorities and tasks in a fluid environment. Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area while following all safety procedures and guidelines. Essential Skills Experience with general labor and hands-on shop or warehouse work. Ability to perform mechanical assembly of parts and units using basic hand and power tools. Proficiency in assembling furniture such as desks and chairs following written or verbal instructions. Capability to load and unload containers with parts and assembled units safely. Comfort supporting multiple departments, including deployment, warehouse, and production teams. Ability to troubleshoot basic issues with software boxes and equipment under direction. Willingness and ability to work between two work sites as needed. Comfort working in a startup technology and defense-oriented environment. Flexibility to wear different hats and shift between tasks and responsibilities throughout the day. Reliability, strong work ethic, and attention to detail in a fast-paced setting. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience in a startup or rapidly changing work environment. Experience in logistics, general production, or warehouse inventory support. Familiarity working alongside engineers or technical teams on mechanical assembly and repair. Ability to adapt quickly to new processes, tools, and work instructions. Strong teamwork skills and willingness to support colleagues across different functions. Comfort with minimal supervision and taking initiative to identify and complete needed tasks. No travel required beyond commuting between the designated work sites. Why Work Here? Work Environment This role operates in a startup tech defense environment that is fluid, flexible, and fast paced. You will split time between two work sites and support the transition to a new facility in El Segundo. The workspace includes a large break room with amenities such as a keg, and daily catered lunches are provided. Work involves physical tasks such as loading and unloading containers, assembling furniture, and performing mechanical assembly in a shop and warehouse setting. You should be comfortable in a hands-on, changing environment where priorities can shift quickly and collaboration with engineers and technical staff is common. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Hawthorne, CA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $27.00 - $27.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
