Bilingual Job Summary:
We are looking for a skilled Manual Machine Operator to set up and operate manual grinding machines to shape and finish metal components with precision. The role requires hands-on experience with manual surface grinders, Blanchard, and/or milling machines, a strong understanding of machining practices, and the ability to work from blueprints and tight tolerances.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Operate manual surface grinders, Blanchard, and/or milling machines to grind and finish metal parts to specified dimensions and surface finishes.
  • Set up machine operations, including selecting appropriate wheels, cutters, speeds, and feeds.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, sketches, and job layouts to determine material requirements and setup procedures.
  • Inspect workpieces using precision measuring instruments (micrometers, calipers, height gauges, etc.) to ensure accuracy and conformance to specifications.
  • Maintain proper documentation of work completed and quality checks.
  • Monitor machine performance and make adjustments as needed to maintain accuracy and surface finish.
  • Perform routine maintenance on machines and ensure the work area is kept clean and organized.
  • Follow all shop safety procedures and ensure safe handling of tools and materials.
  • Work independently or with minimal supervision while maintaining productivity and quality standards.
Requirements:
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; trade school or apprenticeship preferred.
  • Minimum 1-5 years of hands-on experience operating manual surface grinders, Blanchard, and/or milling machines.
  • Strong understanding of manual machining techniques, feeds and speeds, and grinding wheel selection.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings.
  • Proficient with precision measuring tools and methods.
  • Solid understanding of material properties, especially steels, tool steels, and aluminum.
  • Ability to work with tight tolerances (±0.001" or better).
  • Strong attention to detail, patience, and commitment to producing high-quality work.
Preferred Skills:
  • Experience in toolroom or mold/die work a plus.
  • Knowledge of surface finishes and flatness requirements.
  • Ability to handle multiple jobs and prioritize effectively.
Physical Requirements:
  • Must be able to stand for long periods, lift up to 50 lbs., and work in a machine shop environment.
  • Manual dexterity and good hand-eye coordination required. Workplace Policies — Drugs & Alcohol
