Band Saw Operator & Setup

Under general supervision the Saw Operator is responsible for operating and tending to metal sawing machines such as; band saws, cutoff saws, and other machines that cut metal plates, sheets, tubes and structure. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to satisfactorily setup saw to cut specified angles to print requirements. Represents the knowledge, skill, and/or ability to setup and operate band saw.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Operates saw machines in order to produce metal work pieces.
• Reads blueprint for product specification such as; dimensions, angles, tolerances and number or parts to be formed.
• Inspects product using calipers, micrometer, scales, templates, or other measuring instruments to verify conformance to blueprint or manufacturing instructions.
• Able to recognize cosmetic non-conformances based on Company specifications such as; burrs, galling, cracked edges, slug marks, dimensional changes in production parts and initiate action to prevent non-conformance such as stopping the machine and notifying the Lead person.
• Makes set-up adjustments to machines and notifies Lead person when additional service is required.
• Perform minor machine maintenance such as; changing worn accessories, oiling and cleaning machines, dies, or parts, and adding coolant to machine reservoirs.
• Reports all malfunctioning equipment and non-conforming parts to Lead person to determine course of action needed.
• Follow department procedures which include but are not limited to; keeping floors clean of oil and debris, returning tools to proper locations, organize part pans, and performs other housekeeping duties.
• Responsible for attending all training provided and for adhering to all DME, Inc procedures, policies, and plans, conforming to reporting requirements, and safe operating procedures at all times.

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to walk; reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and work in tiring positions. Must be able to lift 50 lbs.

Skills/Qualifications:

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); and 2 or more years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Read and interpret blueprints or other job specifications. Ability to make all inspections on machined parts using precision measuring equipment. Ability to drive a forklift and pass forklift training required.

Mathematical Skills required:

Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Must be able to work in fast paced environment, Team player mentality is a necessity. Dependable. Work is performed on the manufacturing floor and will require overtime occasionally. Must be able to work Overtime if assigned.
