The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with directional boring machines, a strong understanding of underground utility installation, and a commitment to safety and quality workmanship. Key Responsibilities Operate horizontal directional drilling (HDD) equipment to install conduit, fiber optic pathways, and related underground infrastructure Read and interpret bore plans, utility locates, and construction drawings Perform bore setup, pilot drilling, reaming, and pullback operations Maintain proper bore alignment, depth, and grade to avoid existing utilities Coordinate with the drilling crew, locator, and jobsite supervisors during operations Perform daily equipment inspections and routine maintenance Troubleshoot drilling issues such as mud flow, steering corrections, and ground conditions Ensure compliance with safety regulations, company policies, and OSHA standards Document bore footage, depths, and job progress Assist with jobsite setup, cleanup, and restoration as needed Required Qualifications Proven experience operating directional boring or HDD equipment Experience installing conduit for fiber optic or telecommunications projects Knowledge of underground utility locating and damage prevention practices Ability to read utility maps, bore profiles, and construction drawings Strong mechanical aptitude and equipment maintenance skills Valid driver's license (CDL preferred but not required) Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform physical labor as required Certifications / Trainings -
