Position Summary The Pavement Technician provides essential technical support during the execution of roadway marking task orders. This role focuses on the physical preparation of the site, the continuous feeding of materials into specialized machinery, and the manual application of pre-formed markings. The Pavement Tech ensures that the Lead Pavement Tech can maintain a continuous, high-quality production rate without interruption. Key Responsibilities Accountable for the mechanical and manual cleaning of the asphalt/concrete. Must use blowers and wire brushes to ensure 100% adhesion readiness, preventing future paint peeling. Feed the machine by managing a constant supply of thermoplastic blocks and glass beads to the melter/truck to prevent production of cold joints. Manually install preformed thermoplastic symbols using a torch, ensuring they align perfectly with the Lead Pavement Tech's layout. Operate the loading gate and valves on striping trucks and walkbehind units under the direction of the Lead Pavement Tech. Place and retrieve wet paint cones or tabs to protect fresh markings from traffic. Critical Success Factors Ensure the melter never runs dry to prevent breaks in the Lead's striping run. Ensure markings are never applied over moisture or debris to avoid rework. Perform the End of Shift flush and clean all spray tips and nozzles to ensure the equipment is ready for the next shift. Safety & Compliance Follow all HR policies, safety policies, OSHA regulations, and sitespecific safety requirements. Wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times. Participate in daily safety briefings and toolbox talks. Report unsafe conditions, near misses, and accidents immediately to the Field Supervisor. Maintain a clean and organized work area. Teamwork & Communication Work cooperatively with all crew personnel. Communicate effectively about work progress, material needs, and potential issues. Assist with training less experienced workers when assigned. Follow directions from the Field Supervisor and Lead Pavement Tech regarding daily work assignments. Required Qualifications Experience & Skills 2 4 years of experience in roadway construction or commercial striping Proficient with hightemperature torches, industrial blowers, and material handmixers Flagger Certification OSHA 10 Licenses & Authorization Must be legally authorized to work in the United States Ability to pass background check and drug screening Preferred Qualifications Bilingual (English/Spanish) ATSSA Pavement Marking Technician Physical Requirements Able to operate heavy walkbehind machinery for extended periods Work in all weather conditions (e.g., heat, cold, snow, rain) Stand, bend, kneel, and work in confined positions for extended periods Wear required PPE for extended periods
