On-site Job Summary The CMM Operator is responsible for performing dimensional inspection of aerospace components using Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMM) to ensure conformance with engineering drawings, specifications, and quality standards. This role supports aerospace manufacturing operations by providing accurate inspection results, maintaining inspection records, and ensuring compliance with AS9100 and customer requirements. Key Responsibilities
- Operate CMM equipment to perform dimensional inspections on precision aerospace components
- Set up parts and fixtures for CMM inspection in accordance with inspection plans
- Execute CMM programs and review inspection results
- Interpret engineering drawings, GD&T, and inspection requirements
- Use precision measuring tools such as gauges, calipers, micrometers, and height gauges
- Document inspection results and generate inspection reports
- Identify non-conforming conditions and document findings per quality procedures
- Collaborate with manufacturing and engineering teams to resolve quality issues
- Maintain calibration and proper handling of inspection equipment
- Support first article inspections (FAI) in accordance with AS9102
- Follow all aerospace quality, safety, and regulatory requirements Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required; technical training preferred
- 2+ years of CMM operation or dimensional inspection experience
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and GD&T
- Experience using CMM software and inspection tools
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Ability to document inspection results clearly and accurately
- Basic computer skills (inspection reporting, data entry) Preferred Qualifications
- Aerospace manufacturing or defense industry experience
- Familiarity with AS9100 and AS9102 (First Article Inspection)
- Experience with CMM programming software (PC-DMIS, Calypso, or equivalent)
- Knowledge of statistical process control (SPC)
- Ability to support continuous improvement and root cause analysis Work Environment This position operates in a manufacturing and quality inspection environment.
Employees may be exposed to machinery, noise, and manufacturing equipment. Personal protective equipment (PPE) may be required when on the manufacturing floor. Overtime or shift flexibility may be required based on production needs.
