SUMMARY DESCRIPTION

: Ensure the successful production of plastic materials through preventative maintenance, running the machines and equipment at optimum performance levels, and management of employees. Provide quality assurance for finished goods; productivity/manufacturing considerations for efficient throughout.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

Understands and adheres to all Silgan safety policies and procedures to prevent injury to self and co-workers. Ensuring and enforcing all policies and procedures (safety and company). Ensuring PPE in worn at all times necessary. Ensure safe working practices are followed and all accidents, hazards, near misses, and property damage are reported in the required time Complete required paperwork. Troubleshooting equipment. Ensuring the quality of product. Following the Process Control Parameters. Verifying quality of product through inspections and tests. Ensuring the completion and accuracy of all required reports. Monitor the scrap bottles and perform a scrap count. Ensure proper work attire is worn. Maintain clean and safe work environment. Housekeeping (sweeping, cleaning, wipe-downs, garbage). Ensuring the production floor and all common areas are prepared and clean for the next shift Communicate effectively will all employees. Minor repair or replacement of parts as needed during shift to maintain proper specification of manufactured parts. Complete reports relating to production and machine performance, including all down time giving explanation. Promote a safe working environment. Produce finished goods that meet or exceed our customers' requirements and specifications, and to produce these finished goods at optimum cycle times for efficient throughout. Provide information for shift notes, problems encountered, corrective actions taken, machine setting readings all on provided forms. Maintain best cycle, blow, exhaust and dry cycle times while maintaining effective throughput of regrind material. Acquire the skills and knowledge to efficiently operate, troubleshoot, repair and maintain the manufacturing equipment of Silgan Plastics. Provide labor for mold clean up, set up and minor preventative maintenance as directed by the Supervisor. Machine adjustments. Start/shut down machines. Hands on involvement performing quality checks and testing. Ensure that scrap is minimized through process enhancements. Must have hands-on technical experience in blow/injection, extrusion, molding, process. Set up of secondary bottle handling equipment and leak detection systems. Checks safety devices before starting the machine Monitor and adjust equipment for quality production. Change blow pins and inserts. Repair air, water, and other minor problems with machinery. Document all production counts, including rejects, regrinds, and good production. Communicate with lead or shift supervisor to address any need for improvement. Ensuring the grinding of bottles are being completed. Helping Packers with their duties. Communicate effectively to managers and employees. Meeting production priorities and targets.

EXPERIENCE

Required:

Minimum of 1-3 years plastics experience as a blow mold, injection molding, or extrusion operator

Preferred:

Plastics extrusion / molding experience.

SKILLS :

Required:

Experience in a Food Grade plant is a definite plus. Ability to understand basic math. Ability to work in a team environment. Must be familiar with machine operations. Must be able to read and write English. Must be dependable. Must have a good attendance record. Must be able to lift heavy material and handle physical effort. Responsible for the safety of others in the performance of job duties. May be required to work overtime. Handle difficult situations effectively. Be able to resolve conflicts and problems. Must have good communication skills and the assertiveness to keep on top of documentation requirement. Ability to work with minimal supervision. Flexibility, the willingness to look beyond the job description and assist in doing what must be done in a growing company. Ability to work in a positive and productive team environment.

Preferred:

1-3 years Plastics extrusion / molding experience.
