Job Title:
Saw Operator Job Description This role involves setting up and operating industrial power saws to cut, slot, and trim materials according to precise specifications in a fast-paced production environment. You will read blueprints, follow production schedules, and use measuring tools to ensure accuracy and quality, while safely handling materials with forklifts and overhead cranes. The position begins on first shift for training and then transitions to a second-shift schedule, with optional overtime available. Responsibilities Set up and operate power saws to cut, slot, and trim materials to specified dimensions. Install, adjust, and change saw blades and related tools using appropriate hand tools. Set stops and guides on saws to achieve required dimensions and tolerances. Read and interpret blueprints and production schedules to determine cutting requirements. Verify product accuracy using tape measures and other measuring instruments throughout the process. Inspect materials for defects during and after cutting, ensuring quality standards are met. Label and stage finished materials according to work orders and production documentation. Use an ERP system and related production documents to record work and track materials. Move, stage, and organize raw materials and finished goods for production. Operate forklifts and overhead cranes to handle and transport materials safely. Report equipment malfunctions, material issues, or safety concerns to the supervisor promptly. Maintain a clean and organized work area and follow all safety procedures and guidelines. Work independently to complete assigned tasks while communicating effectively with team members and leadership. Essential Skills Hands-on experience with saw operation or machine operation in an industrial or production environment. Ability to read and interpret blueprints accurately. Proficiency using tape measures and other measuring tools to verify dimensions. Knowledge of basic manufacturing and production processes. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds on a regular basis. Strong communication skills to coordinate with team members and supervisors. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while maintaining productivity and quality. High school diploma or equivalent. Valid driver's license. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience operating forklifts in a manufacturing or warehouse setting. Experience using overhead cranes to move and position materials. Familiarity with ERP systems or digital production documentation. Experience in industrial production or fabrication environments. Work Environment This is a hands-on industrial production environment centered around power saws, material handling equipment, and standard manufacturing tools. The role starts on first shift for training, then moves to a Monday-Thursday schedule from 4:30 PM to 3:00 AM on second shift, with a shift differential and optional overtime available on Friday and Saturday. You will work around forklifts, overhead cranes, and other machinery, following strict safety procedures at all times. The setting is typical of a manufacturing facility, where you will be on your feet for most of the shift and regularly handle materials up to 50 pounds, wearing appropriate work attire and personal protective equipment as required. Job Type & Location This is a Permanent position based out of Cedar Rapids, IA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $28.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
