Job Title:
Machine Operator Job Description We are seeking a dedicated, mechanically inclined Machine Operator to take full ownership of the production line from manufacturing through packaging. In this role, you operate computerized bottle-making equipment, monitor production quality and output, and ensure that products are packaged in the correct quantities and according to specifications. You accurately record production data and issues encountered during the shift, support a safe and organized work area, and contribute to a collaborative, efficient team environment. This position requires regular standing, walking, reaching, and safely lifting up to 10 lbs regularly, 30 lbs frequently, and occasionally up to 50 lbs. Responsibilities Operate and monitor the computer system that controls bottle-making machines to ensure consistent and efficient production. Take overall responsibility for the production line from manufacturing through packaging, ensuring smooth workflow and minimal downtime. Stack finished products safely and efficiently, maintaining accurate counts and proper organization. Monitor production output and product quality throughout the shift, making adjustments as needed to maintain standards. Perform quality inspections and pull samples for laboratory testing in accordance with established procedures. Record production quantities, machine settings, and any problems or irregularities encountered during the shift. Ensure that goods are produced and packaged in the correct quantities and in line with agreed specifications and quality requirements. Support and promote efficient teamwork on the line, helping the team work together harmoniously to meet production goals. Maintain good housekeeping standards by keeping the work area clean, organized, and free of safety hazards. Follow all Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) guidelines and safety procedures at all times. Stand, walk, and reach regularly throughout 12-hour shifts while performing machine operation and production tasks. Lift 10 lbs regularly, 30 lbs frequently, and occasionally up to 50 lbs in a safe and controlled manner. Participate fully in training during the probationary period, learning machine operation, quality standards, and site procedures. Communicate effectively with team members and leadership regarding production status, issues, and improvement ideas. Essential Skills At least 1 year of machine operating experience in a production or manufacturing environment. Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to understand and work with mechanical systems and equipment. Experience operating computer-based control systems or interfaces for machinery. Ability to perform quality inspections and follow defined quality standards and sampling procedures. Capability to monitor production processes and make basic adjustments to maintain efficiency and product quality. Solid math skills to support counting, measurements, and basic production calculations. Ability to stand on your feet and remain physically active for 12-hour shifts. Ability to regularly lift 10 lbs, frequently lift 30 lbs, and occasionally lift up to 50 lbs safely. Demonstrated teamwork skills and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, production-focused environment. Strong problem-solving abilities to identify, communicate, and help resolve production issues. Commitment to maintaining good housekeeping and following GMP and safety guidelines. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience in machine operation within manufacturing, mechanical, mechanic, or construction-related settings. Comfort working with mechanical tools and equipment and being mechanically inclined. Familiarity with GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice) environments or similar regulated production settings. Willingness to work 12-hour switch shifts on a 2 on / 2 off / 3 on / 3 off schedule. Openness to a contract-to-hire role with an initial 6-month duration. Reliability and punctuality for consistent shift attendance. Positive attitude and willingness to learn and grow within a production environment. Why Work Here? Work Environment This is a fully on-site role in a manufacturing facility that produces bottles and caps for products such as shampoo, conditioner, mouthwash, and hand soap. You work with automated bottle-making machinery and computer-controlled systems in a production environment that follows strict GMP guidelines. The position follows 12-hour switch shifts on an A/C and B/D schedule from 6:00 pm to 6:30 am, operating on a 2 days on, 2 days off, 3 days on, 3 days off pattern. During the approximately 30-day probationary period, training takes place on a 6:00 am to 6:00 pm schedule with the same 2 on / 2 off / 3 on / 3 off pattern. The dress code requires steel-toed boots, long pants (jeans or khakis), and a t-shirt. The company provides ear plugs, hair nets, and other necessary protective items to support safety and comfort on the production floor. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Iowa City, IA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $23.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
