Job Description
Job Title:
Machine Operator Job Description This role offers the opportunity to operate and learn a variety of machining equipment in a specialized manufacturing environment that produces advanced alignment, balancing, and frame correction equipment for heavy-duty trucks and trailers. You will support day-to-day production by running machine set-ups, performing tooling once trained, and gradually developing into a key resource by shadowing an experienced programmer prior to their retirement. Responsibilities Operate machining equipment on 1st shift to support daily production requirements. Run set-ups on vertical mill lathes and other assigned machines once properly trained. Perform tooling activities on machines after receiving sufficient training and guidance. Learn to operate and eventually become proficient with HAAS, Mazak, and Tsugami machines. Use hand tools as needed to support machine operation and basic adjustments. Assist in producing a wide variety of parts, working with thousands of part numbers in the facility. Follow instructions and training to read blueprints and interpret specifications accurately. Maintain attention to detail to ensure parts meet quality and dimensional requirements. Support experienced machinists and programmers by shadowing and learning their processes prior to their retirement. Contribute to a safe and orderly work area by following shop procedures and guidelines. Essential Skills Mechanical aptitude and strong interest in machine operation. 6 months to 1 year of machining experience preferred. Willingness and ability to learn HAAS and Mazak machines and operate CNC equipment. Comfort using hand tools in a production or shop environment. Openness to learning blueprint reading and applying it to machining tasks. Ability to follow instructions and training to run machine set-ups and perform tooling. Reliability to work consistent 1st shift hours. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience with vertical mill lathes is a plus. Familiarity with HAAS and Tsugami machines is beneficial. Willingness to learn and use micrometers and calipers for measurement and inspection. Interest in pursuing additional machining education or schooling provided by the employer. Desire to grow into more advanced machining or programming responsibilities over time. Why Work Here? You will join a long-established, family-oriented organization that has been in operation for over 100 years and values each person as more than just a number. The company offers stable 1st shift hours, opportunities for formal schooling in specific machining skills, and a supportive environment where long-tenured employees share their knowledge. Employees have access to benefits including medical, dental, and vision coverage, a 401(k) match, and company-offered life insurance, creating a comprehensive and attractive total rewards package. Work Environment The role is based in an older, smaller shop environment that can be dirty at times, reflecting a traditional, hands-on manufacturing setting. You will work with older machines and parts, alongside long-tenured employees who bring extensive experience, in a facility that manages thousands of part numbers. The shop operates on 1st shift, with a smaller team and a close-knit atmosphere where you can build strong working relationships while learning on vertical mill lathes, HAAS, and Tsugami machines.
